Hospitalist Spotlight: Dr. Veronica Ramierez
Veronica RamierezIn this month’s newsletter we are pleased to feature and thank Dr. Veronica Ramirez, our Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital and UCLA Downtown Hospitalist lead. Dr. Ramirez’s team of hospitalists have been instrumental in helping at MLK Hospital throughout the pandemic, often times signing up for additional coverage.  She and her team have also provided critically needed care at Dignity California Hospital as well, another facility hit particularly hard by Covid-19. As noted by Dr. Lazarus, “Veronica has been a great leader and role model throughout. She is also a vocal advocate for the Latinx community where she devotes hours to help many understand the benefits of Covid-19 vaccination.”  We are so honored to have you as a member of GIM! Thank you for all of your hard work!

David EisenmanA team of 10 UCLA professors, including GIM's David Eisenman, has received 2-year award for a project that will combine their expertise in engineering, urban planning, public health and environmental law to address the rapid increase in the number of extreme heat days in Los Angeles.

The project, called Heat Resilient L.A., will over the next two years determine where and when people moving around the city are most vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat — a problem being caused by climate change — and assess which communities most need cooling interventions.

More details in this UCLA Newsroom release.
