This Month's Charity
For this month I will be supporting International Women's Development Agency by donating 10% from each doll sale price to their organization.

Doll Donations
This month I want to thank Sophie from Legana (I used to live there!) for her generosity in donating dolls. Always appreciated! (Plus it saves them from ending up as landfill, which is what most plastic toys eventually become, unfortunately.)

DIY Tips and Ideas
My daughter Connie has been 'helping' me work on dolls over the holidays. She painted some dolls for herself and I thought she did a really good job at concentrating and painting such small details. They have so much character. She also dressed some dolls in tissue paper clothing which was very creative and I think it's a great way for children to make doll costumes. It's easier to cut and stick (with sticky tape) than sewing, and I great way to try out different styles. I imagine using coloured tissue paper, or recycled wrapping paper you could create some really amazing designs.

Upcycling Old Umbrellas: Our lovely blue umbrella finally broke beyond repair. The framework was no good and had to go to the tip for metal recycling, but I decided to use the fabric. Here are my girls modelling the finished garment - which can be either a poncho or a skirt. I think it looks great. And it was so easy to make. I simply sewed some elastic around the central opening which I cut large enough for my children to wear. When I posted this on my Facebook, others shared their ideas for recycling old umbrellas such as making shopping bags, sleeping bags for the homeless, and even someone shared a picture of the knitting needles their mother had made from old umbrella spokes! I thought it was fantastic.

Family Life
We had a nice family Christmas at home, with my parents and two of my sisters joining us, so my girls had some of their cousins around to play with and had a great time! Here's the best Christmas family photo we managed to take. (Connie is dressed as a Christmas elf and Jemima, randomly, as a little witch.)

Please let me know what type of news items you would like to receive each month  - DIY tips, sales information, stories from buyers and their dolls, a day in the life of a doll crafter etc. I'd really appreciate your feedback!

All the best for the coming year,

Sonia Singh
