The Brigstow Institute brings researchers from different disciplines together with a range of partners across the city and beyond to experiment in new ways of living and being.
The Brigstow Institute is delighted to announce that our Ideas Exchange funding call is now OPEN.
There is also still time to apply for our Seedcorn Funding call.

Ideas Exchange

To support and enable emerging, interdisciplinary networks and partnerships that are co-designed and co-run with those outside the university (creatives, charities, businesses).
Deadline 25 February.

Seedcorn Funding

To enable research teams to carry out risky, experimental, co-produced and exploratory projects to take the first steps in developing and pursuing new research questions.
Deadline 3rd February.

Ideas Exchange Funding

Call open. Deadline: 25 February 2021, 12 noon

  • Do you have an idea for new research but need some time from partners and some money to take it forward?
  • Do you need support to develop a network, either in the UK or globally?
  • Have you met some people at a Brigstow event and want to carry on the conversation?
  • Do you need to develop and discuss ideas before you apply for research funding (from Brigstow’s seedcorn fund, for example!)?

The Ideas Exchange funding is designed to support emerging, interdisciplinary networks and partnerships that are co-designed and co-run with external partners. Up to £1000 is available per Ideas Exchange, although applications up to £2000 will be considered if the proposal is for more extensive activity or, for example, to extend the collaboration beyond the UK (although we do not envisage much travel taking place).

We welcome applications for Ideas Exchanges on any topic broadly within the theme Living Well in the 21st Century. Alongside an open call we welcome applications in this round for teams interested in exploring the following themes: Research and the Creative Industries and Covid and Structural Inequalities.

Visit 2021 Ideas Exchange Full Call Details for more information and how to apply.

Virtual Drop-in Session

15 February, PM
There will be an opportunity to meet and discuss potential Ideas Exchanges with Brigstow colleagues at an online afternoon drop-in session.– book a slot on Eventbrite.

Seedcorn Funding

Call Open. Deadline: 3 February 2021, 4pm.

You can see what Brigstow is looking for in a seedcorn application and how to apply in the 2020-21 seedcorn guidelines, checklist and applications page of our website

This is an opportunity for mixed interdisciplinary teams of researchers to carry out risky, experimental, and exploratory projects to take the first steps in developing and pursuing new research questions. We especially welcome applications from teams that might find it difficult to find early-stage funding because of the novelty of the ideas, methods or approaches.

Funds are available to initiate and develop partnerships to undertake early-stage, experimental research pilots. This funding is also suitable if you received Ideas Exchange or network funding from us before and are now ready to embark upon testing those ideas through a seedcorn research project.

Visit Brigstow's Funding Pages to view live funding calls.
You can see the range of projects we've funded so far on the Projects page of the Brigstow Website and watch a film of our showcase event where projects were able to show people the work they'd done below.
Visit Brigstow's Project Pages to explore previously funded projects.
