Weekly Update

Hello dear friends!

Sorry I have been so MIA this winter. We are in the final month of building our house, so I have been very focused on completion. This is why I haven't been in touch in a while.

I hope that you all are well in this mid-winter season. I am writing to say, it is time to start daydreaming and planning your home garden!

Gardening Classes
I have started fielding a few calls from folks who are ready to start their tomatoes (wait!), so I want to offer a few Zoom classes on planning your home vegetable garden in February. Read on for more info.

Farmstand Update
In other news, I have moved the farmstand from my mom's driveway to the farm driveway just a bit up the road. During house construction we had the opportunity to improve parking and access to electricity, so we moved the stand to the new spot. We've also done some improvements on the inside, and I can't wait to show you!
Garden Classes

I would like to offer a couple classes per month as I did last year, but I need your feedback. What do you want to learn? What gardening challenges have you faced and need to solve? What successes have you had that you just can't keep to yourself? Please email or call me and let me know what you want to learn and I'll set up a class for you. Below are the classes I've planned so far.
  • February 9th, 6-7pm- Garden Planning Series: Understand, Choosing & Starting Your Seeds
Your farmer de-mystifies seeds and seed starting for success in the home vegetable garden. Register for the class and get more info here.
  • February 16th, 6-7pm- Garden Planning Series: Making a Garden Plan & Planting Schedule
Your farmer helps you make a garden plan from weed control to a planting schedule so you can have maximum enjoyment and production. Register for the class and get more info here.

Eggs & Bread

The farmstand won't open until late March, but you can still get bread and eggs from my Cove neighbors.

Bread, goodies and tea is available from Sarah West (Tea House) on her website: www.teahouselagrande.com. As always, Sarah's baking is art. We have been enjoying the home bread deliveries and covet the bread down to the heels.

Eggs are available from Patti McClelland. Contact: patti@coveorgeon.com. Congrats to Patti and Steve on their new batch of puppies!
Gardening classes are coming up in February!
A New Essay

I wrote another essay for The Other Oregon magazine in December. I have been thinking a lot about how to continue to build community and address rural-urban and other divides we're facing. Just like you, I'm working out how to be and live and act; I'm honing down what I think and it is evolving every day. This is a snapshot of my reflections at the end of 2020 if you're interested.

I sure don't have the answers and I have a lot to learn. It is kind of intimidating to put this out there knowing that I don't know what I don't know; that I am surely wrong about a lot of things; that I have made assumptions based on my own experience and identity. I would like to continue to grow my thinking, so get in touch if you want to chat.
Have your seed catalogs come yet?
