In Memoriam

Ivan Philp

Ivan was born and raised in Ireland and went to school and university in Dublin. He played rugby in school and at university. He emigrated to Scotland and continued his rugby career. He came to Canada with his wife Patricia in the mid sixties and joined the Saints. He enjoyed his rugby with the club and with his experience was a shoo in for the Alberta team. During his stay in Calgary they had three daughters.

Ivan was a stockbroker and a successful one. His other sports passion as were golf and sailing. He was an amazing player and a number of times broke par, his 69th year he shot a 69. How about that! At the latter part of his life he moved to Victoria and in recent years developed some health problems and sadly passed away. He will be missed and we wish the best for his family.

Darren “DC” Coleman

DC is credited with being the person responsible for the Saints Dynasty. The current LA Giltinis head Coach (MLR) was a no non-sense coach.

Years with the Saints: 2001-04

Playing Positions: #10 and 1st Div Head Coach

How did you come to join the Saints: Thru an eventual good friend named George Hardisty

Best Saints Memory: The lifelong friendships & genuine fun Saints Career Highlights: 2001, 2002 & 2004 Championships.

Advice for current Saints players / members: The more you put into something the more satisfaction you receive.

Saints Coach Profiles

Bernie Dowhan

Bernie Dowhan has been a member of the Saints Family since 2003, and has held an active junior coaching role since 2014. Bernie loved his days playing 3rd div on Friday nights and as a coach, loves seeing the players grow and progress over the season! Bernie started his rugby career in Dauphin, MB in 1993 and we’ve loved having him part of our club since 2003!

Amanda Alie

Amanda Alie joined us in 2017 when her kids started playing for the Saints, which is also when she first joined the rugby community! Amanda currently coaches our u7 bunch, and she loves helping them learn the basics of the game. Amanda’s favourite memory with the Saints comes from when one of her players scored their first try, and she could feel the sheer joy that kid was feeling when they high-fived. She loves being part of helping kids learn and grow in the game, and it’s moments like that, which make coaching so great! Thanks for your dedication to the Saints Family!
