Join us as we continue our work to remove barriers to literacy for children, youth and adults in Muskegon County.

Community leaders, parents, government officials, business owners, education professionals, social service agencies and anyone else with a passion for creating a more literate Muskegon County, is invited to join us for this virtual Community Summit. The goal of the summit is to collectively strengthen the cross-sector capacity in Muskegon County and amplify community involvement to meet the needs of children, youth and adults that face a variety of barriers in their quest to becoming literate.

Speakers including:

Sharon Darling, Founder & President, National Center for Families Learning

Poppy Siaz-Hernandez, Equity & Inclusion Officer, Office of Governor Whitmer

Breakout Groups – Community Action:

Economic Opportunity/Workforce Development

Focused coordination of adult learning opportunities that include better access to services for those with basic literacy needs, creating clear opportunities for family sustaining wages.

• Education

Our schools face the enormous task of mitigating learning loss and we must mobilize as a community to provide support specific to reading instruction and ensure all families have what they need at home to help their children thrive as readers.

• Neighborhoods & Community Leadership

Building partnerships with existing networks of community-based leaders, neighborhood associations, churches, and others to create literacy navigators that help bridge the gap between needs and services.

The summit will take place on ZOOM. A link will be sent to registered participants prior to the event.
