Dear Friend of IPPNW Canada,

On 22 January 2021 the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) entered into force making nuclear weapons illegal.

Congratulations!  It is your support and commitment that brought us to this point- an international treaty that prohibits the use, the threat of use, possession, and development of nuclear weapons.  From the dedicated campaigning of the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to the peace marches around the world, from letter-writing campaigns to online petitions- every voice, every step, and every signature helped make the TPNW international law.

Canada, along with nuclear-armed states and their allies have not signed or ratified the TPNW.  IPPNWC is focused on getting Canada to join the Treaty and we will continue to work with our supporters and other peace groups to make this happen.

Please act now for the TPNW in Canada:

IPPNWC’s Dr. Nancy Covington in Halifax initiated the House of Commons petition e-3028, a call on the Government of Canada to accede to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons- there is still time to join with 1500 who have already made their voices heard.

Deadline: 6 February 2021 @ 2:00 PM EST

IPPNWC has an exciting year ahead of us and you are invited to participate- join our monthly Active Members Meetings for excellent speakers and updates, feel energized by IPPNWC’s student group and help bring the TPNW to Canada.

In peace,

Vinay Jindal, MD

Acting-president, IPPNWC

TAKE ACTION - ICAN CITY APPEAL

Nuclear Weapons put all our cities at risk- now cities all over the world are fighting back. Click here to get your city on board! Photographed is Nova Scotia Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) member Kathrin Winkler and IPPNW-Canada Director Nancy Covington. The IPPNW-C and VOW collaboration led by these two resulted in a very successful ICAN Cities Appeal campaign in Halifax.
IPPNW-C Student Network Update
On January 25th, the IPPNW-C Student Network met and discussed actions and projects happening all over North America surrounding peace and nuclear disarmament! IPPNW-C Director, Dr. Tim Takaro spoke to the student group about the intersection between Environmentalism and Nuclear Weapons from a tree near Brunette River where he is currently camped out protesting the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
