World Read Aloud day is February 3rd, and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library plans to celebrate all day by having Library staff members share their favorite stories from 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. They plan to stream their stories live on Facebook and YouTube simultaneously! The attached document shares YouTube links and book titles for each hour.

They also want to remind families that they have one on one virtual Reading Buddy sessions, as well as one on one Tutoring and Enrichment appointments available morning, afternoon, and evenings with our Library staff members.  Families can sign up by visiting: https://bit.ly/CML1on1sessions.

Meal Bundle Distribution - January 2021

Weekly pick-up of meal bundles will continue on Wednesdays in February from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at select pick-up locations across the district. Meal bundle pick-up dates are February 3, February 10, February 17 and February 24. View pick up locations here.

We need to work TOGETHER to help your child memorize their multiplication facts. They can memorize 144 facts if they follow these 6 Rules. The Fastest Way to Learn Multiplication (video)

Rule 1: Multiply By One- Anything times one is that number. 

Rule 2: Multiply By Ten- Zero is the Hero- Take the number you start with and add a zero.

Rule 3: Multiply By Eleven- Multiply a single digit by 11, it just duplicates itself. 

Rule 4: Multiply by Two- Double the number /or/ Skip count by 2s 

Rule 5: Multiply by Five- Skip count by 5s

Rule 6: Multiply by Nine- There is a finger trick /or/ The product must equal 9.

With the new school semester starting the Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council wanted to be a familiar support system for your staff, students, and families.  Partnering with Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council means providing a high quality, girl-centered, and girl-led experience for tomorrow’s leaders and change-makers right at McAlpine Elementary.

We are excited to announce the upcoming virtual opportunities, including openings in the new Virtual Series Troop 2973! 

In Troop 2973, girls of all ages will embark on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience with weekly virtual meetings hosted by experienced Girl Scout leaders and have the opportunity to participate in other Council-wide activities! All actives are geared toward helping girls build a strong foundation in the areas of:

• Financial Literacy
• Healthy Living
• STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math)
• Outdoors

Cost is $25 per girl and includes annual Girl Scout membership. Full & Partial Financial Assistance is available for membership fees & supplies. Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council serves all girls in Mecklenburg, Union, Anson, Cabarrus, Montgomery, Stanly, Rowan, and York (SC) counties.
