Chilly days call for warming soups!

A few months ago (or maybe longer... when was the last time it was "normal" for friends to walk by as you're eating lunch?) a friend of mine saw me eating soup out of a thermos and said "Oh no! Are you feeling okay?"  Her concern confused me until she explained that no one in her family ate soup unless they were sick.  Well, sure, there's the whole chicken-noodle-soup-cures-a-cold thing.  But do y'all really not enjoy soup any other time?

I love soup!  Especially creamy, hearty, pureed vegetable soups, with a little curry or cayenne powder thrown in to double the heat factor.  Winter veggies are especially ideal; you can make a pureed soup with carrots, cauliflower, butternut or other winter squash, sweet potatoes... add a little cream or coconut milk if you're feeling fancy!

Beechcrest Farm will be there!  We will have plenty of bone-in pork chops, ground and stew pork, sausage, bacon, and a small pork roast, perfect for the crock pot!  On the beef side, we'll have lots of 1-lb packs of ground beef (finally!), stew beef, brats, steaks, and short ribs.  We look forward to seeing you!

Bonlee Grown Farm

Hello Fearrington! Bonlee Grown Farm is back with goodies! Amy's baking banana bread and by special request, pumpkin bread will be back this week! Also this week we have Country Caviar: our sweet salsa with red onions and sweet peppers, black beans, black eyed peas, and corn soaked overnight in our special marinade (perfect as a Super Bowl dip!).

Also from the kitchen are bread and butter pickles, sweet crunchy pickles (great for deviled eggs!), pickled okra, chow chows, pepper vinegars, sauerkraut, strawberry jam, triple berry, apple butter, and more!

Don't forget Valentine's is coming up: we have cold-hardy amaryllis bulbs in velvet red, pink, and white that you can watch grow and bloom. We have bouquet arrangements, succulents big and small, aloe, coleus, snake plants, cacti, and lots of houseplants.

Also for Valentine's we'll have earrings and necklaces made from feathers gathered on the farm: orange, gray, green, blue, black and white. To preorder call/text 919-548-0977 or email amyraysugg@embarqmail.com
