Dear WCFR Supporters,
Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Worldwide Community First Responder, Inc. has partnered with Volunteer New York for eight consecutive years in this effort.
Together, we encouraged community members to engage in volunteer service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We hosted service projects such as "Assessing Nanuet Community Health", "Assessing Spring Valley Community Health", and "Be a Lifesaver: Learn Hands-only CPR". Community members served in these projects by conducting short surveys and learning a lifesaving skill.
“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
This year, for the first time, we were virtual. On Monday, January 18th, 2021 (MLK Day of Service), WCFR presented "Be a Lifesaver: Learn about COVID-19" With Erica Williams, MSN, RN on Facebook Live. This service project was focused on educating community members about COVID-19 to save lives. We thank all of you who joined us virtually for our Ninth Annual MLK Day and all of the community members who have participated in our service projects over the last nine years.
