Where Can You Find Trustworthy and Helpful Resources?

In Some Ways, It’s Easier Now. In Other Ways, Not So Much!

Are you old enough to remember the “let your fingers do the walking through the Yellow Pages” (phonebook slogan)?

Sixteen years ago, when my mother first started showing disturbing symptoms, we didn’t know what was wrong nor where to turn for help.

We knew she was agitated and forgetful, confused and stressed. We didn’t immediately assume she had Alzheimer’s or another dementia. There just wasn’t much information or advice online yet. And resources such as Retirement Connection didn’t exist. It was basically: open the yellow phone book directory or start making phone calls. Usually, I had little success and a lot of frustration.

Today, lists of resources from organizations, government agencies, service providers, and professionals are easily available and searchable, both in print and on the Internet. However, there are too many choices and a lot of misinformation, and it's difficult to determine who is trustworthy and reliable.

If you were going to make a career pivot or take up a sport or instrument, would you coach or advise yourself? Now, add the stress and demands of caregiving for a person living with dementia. Do you really have the time and energy? Probably not the most advisable approach, right?

Imagine if someone could provide you with suitable and trustworthy resources for caring for your loved one and save you time, money, and stress.

That’s what I do through my counseling and my website. I guide you to service providers or professionals who will do a thorough, empathetic job for you. I have already done the vetting and the research for you with people I would trust for my own mom. In addition, my website has a page of recommended resources for many of your needs and wants, both for yourself and your care recipient.
