You may find it comforting to read a blog by Jude Kiley-Morgan, a Counsellor Practitioner in Oncology, Haematology and NICU at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in the Psychological Medicine for Children, Young People and Families Team. Jude talks about bereavement and seeking solace in togetherness.
I'm sure many of us can identify with Jude's thoughts at this time.
Can you help?    Volunteer with us!    #weneedyou!

Our time is precious. We want to be available to help as many people as we can when they are in need. To help us achieve that, we are looking for volunteers to fill specific vacancies for tasks which will free up our time.

Our current vacancies are:
If you, or someone you know, has the skills and knowledge to fulfil any of these roles (or would like to volunteer in a different role) and shares our passion to help those affected by cancer, please do get in touch or share the details with friends.
Help us spread the word that we're recruiting.

Centre News

We were all disappointed that allowing members to return to The Centre had to be delayed again in January. We can assure you that as soon as it's safe to do so, once lockdown has been lifted and restrictions on social contact eased, we will plan our reopening and details will be shared with you. We can't wait to see you all!
In the mean time, we're sure you'll be interested to see the before, during and after refurbishment photos of the main kitchen. We're sure you will agree that it looks AMAZING!

How you can help - we'd love your feedback. What you'd like included, a story you'd like to share, do get in touch. (Articles will be included at the discretion of the team). Do forward the newsletter to friends, family & potential supporters to help widen our reach.

Would you be willing to share your story of how the centre has helped you during the pandemic? In order to reach even more people, we're raising awareness of The Centre with local media. It would really help to have a first hand account of how The Centre has helped during the pandemic. Your story could help others in the same situation. Names can be withheld if you prefer. We would love to hear from you if you can help. You can email Lorna here.
What a Team!
Fundraising news from Adrian - Trustee Advisor

Our Funding Team was formed last spring, aiming to support new activities, equipment, and upgrades. Covid-19 completely changed funding, shifting support to keep charities from collapsing. Since our first application in April, some great work from Arthur and Nick and latterly from Debbie, Heidi, and Ted, has allowed us to submit twenty grant requests. Amazingly five have succeeded. I’d like to thank: The Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, The National Lottery Community Fund , Pink Ribbon, and The Scotsdales Charitable Foundation.
They helped us keep our Centre virtually at break even during 2020. THANK YOU.

2021 brings us new challenges. Grants with 40 applicants a year ago, might attract 400 submissions. So, we are also approaching Cambridgeshire’s top companies, and continue to look for new ideas to raise funds until we can regain normality.
If you've
ANY ideas to raise funds, no matter how modest a project, please email us.
Lorna has set herself a February Fundraising challenge to raise funds for CCHC and would be grateful for your support. You can read about it and donate here. All donations gratefully received, every penny really does count. Thank you.
Perhaps you could set up your own February Fundraiser?
           Star Volunteers
Our charity could not function without our dedicated volunteers and we'd like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped us through this challenging time. Whether you've been helping on a regular basis through the pandemic, or are waiting patiently to be called back when restrictions allow, you're all stars and we thank you all.
Introducing Ted......

We’d like to give you an opportunity to get to know our teams a little better.
This month we’re finding out more about Ted Sage, our Chair of Trustees.

An Essex boy, I spent my early years in Dedham - Constable country – and am still a country boy at heart.  My father’s job took the family to Southampton and then to Haverhill, just in time for me to leave school.

I started work as a trainee with Pye Telecom. In my spare time I tinkered with electronics, repairing radios and building Hi-Fi equipment. Following promotion to apprentice, I was moved to development labs in Cambridge, eventually becoming a Chartered Engineer.

I met my wife Diana in Cambridge, we moved to Hertfordshire, and then Gloucestershire, where I worked for Rank Xerox. Later in my career we moved to Hong Kong for 3 years where I was the only westerner managing a staff of over 200. On return to Cambridge we bought a house in Great Shelford.  Assignments in telecommunications and logistics saw me travelling to Scotland, India and Belgium.

Since retiring I have enjoyed foreign travel and spending time with family. I embraced charity work to give something back to the community and became a trustee of the CCHC in 2008, initially as secretary and later as Chair, a role which I have enjoyed with the support of an excellent team of trustees, staff and volunteers.

I'm disappointed that we've not been able to welcome members to the Centre for almost a year. We've done our best to maintain contact with members and look forward to being able to welcome everyone to our updated and newly decorated facility.
