Dean’s Speaker Series with Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, Superintendent, U.S. Air Force Academy
Thursday Feb 11, 12:30-1:30PM, Livestream
  • Appointed to his new position last fall, Lt. Gen. Clark is the first African American officer to lead the Air Force Academy.
  • Members of the Haas Veterans Club will interview Lt. Gen. Clark about the work of the Academy, his journey as a leader, and the diversity, equity and inclusion efforts he is spearheading within the Air Force Academy.
  • Registration is not required for this event. Please join via the livestream link, which is also listed on the DSS page.
Celebrating Black History Month!
  • Let's celebrate Black History Month by amplifying the voices of Haas Black students, staff, and alumni.
  • This Berkeleyan article focuses on their unique experiences and why they honor Black History Month, including Tiffany Shumate, EW 23!
Berkeley Haas Fisher Center Real Estate Scholarships
Submission Deadline is Friday Feb 5
  • Gerson Bakar Scholarship - Up to $10,000
    • Candidates must demonstrate a significant passion for real estate as a career objective, exhibit an entrepreneurial drive and be pursuing completion of the IGCRE Certificate in Real Estate.
  • Jon Q. Reynolds Scholarship - Up to $10,000
    • Candidates must be pursuing a career in real estate and demonstrate a high level of academic distinction and participation in the real estate program.
  • Falik Family Fellowship - Up to $10,000
    • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for real estate and exhibit significant leadership and entrepreneurial qualities during their graduate studies. Open to both graduating and continuing students.
  • The application is open and will close on Friday Feb 5. Decisions will be released by close of business on Monday Mar 1.
Upcoming Important Dates
Monday Feb 15 Presidents' Day Holiday
  • No class on Monday Feb 15. The Program Office will be closed on Monday Feb 15 in observance of Presidents' Day. We will reopen the office on Tuesday Feb 16.

FYI: Timeline for Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 Electives Enrollment
  • Mar: Summer 2021 Electives Schedule released, Summer Bidding and Add/Drop Round 1
  • Apr: Fall 2021 Electives Schedule released
  • Mid Apr: Fall Bidding
  • Late Apr: Summer Add/Drop Round 2 and Drop Only
  • The goal is to have both Summer and Fall schedules available for review, and students will know what Summer courses they are enrolled before bidding begins. There will be a Summer Drop Round in Apr for students to adjust schedules accordingly.

Graduation Date Modification
  • If you plan on graduating earlier or later than your expected graduation date (i.e. 3 years from your date of entry into the program), please complete the Graduation Date Modification Form.
  • Failure to update your graduation date may affect access to future enrollment processes.
  • For all other general inquiries, contact your advisor.

Blue & Gold: Tuesday Feb 16 Combined Cohort Day
  • Your Financial Reporting course will be a combined lecture on Tuesday Feb 16.
  • Future Combined Cohort Day: Introduction to Finance Monday Mar 22

Summer Electives Heads Up
  • We'll cover more about elective registration in due time!
  • For now, yes, Class of 2023 students are eligible to take certain Summer elective courses.
  • Please pay special attention to the course pre-reqs as noted in the course description, e.g. Intro to Finance is the pre-req for New Venture Finance.
  • If you are considering taking summer courses, check the Registration Timeline later and take note of important sign-up dates.
  • Save the Date for First Year Advising Sessions on:
    • Thursday, Mar 4 12 noon

Important Reminders


Reminder: SVSHP Refresher Course
  • Please note that all current students are required to complete an annual refresher training in alignment with requirements from the 2014 CA State Auditor's Report, the Clery Act, and UC SVSH Policy. This also reflects Berkeley’s continued commitment to effectively prevent and respond to sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH).
  • Be on the lookout for a task in CalCentral for the refresher training module. The module is expected to take 5-20 minutes to complete.

Six Sigma Training Interst Survey
  • The General Management (GML) Club is partnering with Optness Institute to bring an opportunity for HAAS Students to learn Lean Six Sigma for managers and MBAs. The GML Club is running a short survey to be better prepared for the course planning.
  • This is a 2-day crash course in "Six Sigma for Management and Decision-Making" and is a highly subsidized program (90% off) offered by Optness for partner schools and includes a Six Sigma - Green Belt certification at the end of the course.

  • Feeling stressed? The Self-Compassion Break is a way to practice dealing with stressful situations.
  • The Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley "Greater Good in Action" section has practices and exercises that you can use every day build compassion, practice kindness, or refresh your self-care tool kit.

Resume Workshop

  • This workshop is going to walk you through how a recruiter or hiring manager might evaluate a resume, and along the way highlight how you might alter your resume to help them help you.
  • We will look at resumes together and evaluate them through this process and understand how to stack the odds in your favor - just to be clear, there is no magic bullet.


Story 2: Your Story: Tell Me About Yourself
Thursday Feb 18, 5-6PM PDT

  • Did you know that within the first 7 seconds of an interview your interviewer has already formed an impression of you? Come learn how to get your interview off to a great start by learning to craft and structure your response to the infamous "Tell Me About Yourself" question. In this highly interactive workshop, you will:
    • Learn the important elements to include in your story
    • Have opportunities to practice
    • Get feedback and refine
    • Work on the non-verbals, (body language, tone, pace, etc.)
  • You will leave feeling more confident and able to effectively convey your unique story and how it aligns with the next step in your career.


Small Group TMAY Practice
Multiple dates and times available

  • Join two to four of your peers and a CMG coach to practice and get feedback on your “Tell me about yourself - TMAY." We encourage you to sign up for a TMAY workshop prior to this practice session and to have a draft TMAY to test out during the session.
  • Get started early because finding the right stories to tell and being able to tell them well takes time. Waiting until you get an interview to prep will be too late.
  • To sign up for a practice session, please log in to CMG BEARS, navigate to the Events module, and type Small Group TMAY Practice in the search bar.

Film Screening and Q&A: Accidental Courtesy 
Wednesday Feb 10, 4:30PM PST
  • Join the Black Staff and Faculty Organization at UC Berkeley for this film about musician Daryl Davis and his unusual hobby. He's played all over the world with legends like Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Daryl likes to meet and befriend members of the Ku Klux Klan - something few black men can say.
  • In his travels, he's collected robes and other artifacts from friends who have left the Klan, building a collection piece by piece, story by story, in hopes of eventually opening a "Museum of the Klan."

15th Annual BERC Energy Summit
Wednesday Feb 10-Friday Feb 12
  • The Berkeley Energy and Resources Collaborative (BERC) is hosting their 15th Annual Energy Summit virtually this year. It's the largest student-led energy conference in the country, bringing together 500+ students, researchers, policy makers, industry leaders and entrepreneurs to discuss the world's most pressing energy challenges.

AmpEquity Speaker Series with Freada Kapor Klein

  • Join Freada Kapor Klein (Founding Partner, Kapor Capital) and Kellie McElhaney (Founder & Executive Director, Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership) as they discuss the gap-closing thesis of Kapor Capital and impact on communities of color.

Attendance Policy
  • Attendance policies are established at the discretion of the professor and are often tied to participation. We encourage you to check out the syllabi for each of your classes to make sure you know what the policies are. 
  • We know this is an incredibly busy and stressful time for everyone and there may be times when you won't be able to attend class. We ask that you communicate with your professors if those situations arise.
