Message from the Mayor

I was delighted to be able to drop off some goodies to the vaccination centre at Drill Hall last Saturday, as a small token of thanks on behalf of all of us in Ware to all the staff and volunteers who are working so hard to get our community vaccinated.  They are all doing an amazing job.

On Monday 11th January your Town Council met remotely to discuss and approve the budget for the Civic Year 2021-22.  You can read more here on what was agreed: https://waretowncouncil.gov.uk/about/news/

Our new Covid-19 Grant Fund was launched two weeks ago and I can report that, to date, we have assisted Chauncy School with the purchase of laptops for children to use at home, made a grant to Citizens Advice East Herts who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, and to Always Bee You to help them provide packs to vulnerable young people isolated at home.  If you think you meet the criteria for help, please see further on in this newsletter for details.

It really is very difficult for everyone at the moment but there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime we must all do our bit to keep everyone safe.

Ware Town Council continues to work for you, albeit remotely.  If there is anything you would like to bring to my attention please do not hesitate to get it touch.

Cllr Alexander Curtis
Town Mayor

Ware Allotments

Ware's allotments have always been popular and never more so than during the pandemic.  The waiting list for allotments has reached record levels and those already on the list face a considerable waiting time before an allotment becomes available.  It has therefore been agreed that the waiting list will close.

This will be reviewed in 2022.

Covid 19 Grant Fund

Ware Town Council has reinstated its Covid-19 Grant Fund to assist local groups and organisations working so hard to combat the difficulties created in our community by the pandemic.

The maximum grant which can be awarded is £500.

Ware Lido

Despite all the difficulties with Covid-19, Ware Lido enjoyed a great, if shorter than usual season, in the summer of 2020.

The Lido is now closed for Winter.  Work has already started on preparing the Lido for Summer 2021 and we will be putting regular updates on our website

Ware Town Council Events

Sadly, our Annual Egg Decorating Competition and Easter Egg Hunt will not be taking place this year.

All our much loved Ware Festival Events have also been cancelled - it is proving impossible to plan for such large scales events which need a decent lead in time when we really don't know what the landscape will look like and what restrictions will be in place during the summer months.  So, with deep regret, our July Ware Festival events have also been cancelled.

We hope that our monthly Cinema afternoons can resume in the autumn.

There may be the option to move some events to the autumn and we will update you when we know more.

We are currently planning a programme of Summer Concerts as these are small scale events which take place outdoors and are easily socially distanced.  Once the programme is in place we will get this out via our usual channels.

We will be back bigger and better in 2022.

Rapid Testing

1 in 3 people with coronavirus don’t show any symptoms.

Rapid tests are free tests for people who do not have any symptoms. They're also known as lateral flow tests.

During the current national lockdown, we're prioritising key and essential workers aged 16 and over who don't have any symptoms and cannot work from home.

Under 16s aren't eligible for community rapid testing. Testing is available at sites throughout Hertfordshire. Testing will be available in the car park at Ware Priory on Saturday 13th February.

Hertfordshire agrees a £2 million fund to help those self isolating

More than 4,000 residents across Hertfordshire will now be able to claim for the discretionary £500 self-isolation payments after a £2million investment was agreed.

Eligible residents will be able to access the new scheme which works alongside the local Test and Trace programme. Residents who have received an 8 Digit ID with notification from NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate will be offered the £500 self-isolation payment if they are earning less than £500 per week after tax and National Insurance contributions, on condition that they strictly follow the law and self-isolate, and meet other criteria.
The £2million of funding was agreed by a key group of public sector partners across public health, NHS, police and environmental health officers. This extra money was approved by the Health Protection Board after the county’s 10 district and borough councils had already distributed the previous grants from Central Government.

The Census is coming!

The Census is a unique survey that happens every 10 years and gives us a snapshot of all the people in England and Wales.  The next Census takes place on Sunday, 21st March 2021.

It tells us what our needs are – helping inform decisions about services, like healthcare.
