NRI Board Presiden Named By Michigan Supreme Court to ‘Justice for All’ Commission

NRI Board President and Michigan Health Endowment Fund Senior Fellow & Program Officer Lynda Zeller has been appointed by order of the Michigan Supreme Court to the newly-created Justice for All (JFA) Commission that will work toward the goal of 100 percent access to our civil justice system. The Commission will lead the implementation of the JFA Strategic Plan aimed at helping more Michiganians solve civil legal problems such as landlord-tenant issues, family law disputes such as parenting time or custody, and access to benefits. CMS Announces Approval of Oklahoma & Maine’s Substance Use Disorder Demonstrations, the 30th and 31st to Expand Access to Combat the Opioid Crisis

In December, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced today, the approval of both the Oklahoma and Maine section 1115 demonstrations to expand treatment for substance abuse disorder. Read more.

Tennessee Governor Signs Medicaid Waiver

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed a resolution authorizing the state’s Medicaid block grant waiver, which would convert federal Medicaid funding to a lump sum and give the state more flexibility to alter its Medicaid program. The waiver has already received federal approval. Read more.

Texas Receives Federal Approval of Uncompensated Care Waiver Extension.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) received federal approval for a 10-year extension to September 2030 of its Texas Healthcare Transformation and Quality Improvement Section 1115 demonstration waiver. The waiver includes reimbursement for safety-net hospitals with federal dollars for uncompensated care provided to uninsured patients. Read more.

CMS Updates SUD Data Book

On January 19, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services published an update to its Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Data Book for Congress, as required by the SUPPORT Act. The data book uses 2018 Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS) data. Read more.

High Psychological Distress Found Among Chinese Students During Early Weeks of Pandemic

Students in China reported high rates of psychological distress during the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, but wearing a face mask frequently and exercising had some protective benefits, according to a study published this week in JAMA Network Open. Read more.

Anger, Aggression Reactivity in Depression May Signal Risk for Converting to Bipolar Disorder

Patients who have depression and frequently experience bouts of anger may have an increased risk of developing bipolar disorder, a study in Depression & Anxiety has found. Read more.
