Safety: Functional And Beautiful
Grounds Central Maintenance led by Nathan Smith is always working hard to maintain and improve campus. A recent project involved placing river rock in the Administrative II and III courtyard area with a functional purpose in providing proper drainage as well as an aesthetic look. The operation was quite labor intensive, so the team was assembled to allow for work/rest rotation and utilizing equipment when possible. Also, the team wore face coverings and were consciously keeping distance from one another. The team included: Jonathan Minns, Julio Rivas, Carlos Mejia, Antonio Romero, Jerson Figueroa, Alfredo Contreras, and Jose Murillo.

Stewardship: A New Home For A Dock Lift
The dock lift (pictured) will soon be relocated from storage at the CBC Facilities Service Center to CMAST*, where it will replace a failed dock lift. Previously, the dock lift at CBC was temporarily installed within Fitts-Woolard Hall's permanent dock leveler pit to load and off-load construction materials. Typically, a mobile gas-powered forklift is used, and by using the electronically powered dock lift, hundreds of hours of gas-powered forklift time was eliminated. Hence, the project reduced its carbon footprint. Joe Riley (Mechanical Systems Inspector) coordinated the dock lift transfer of ownership to NC State and Chuck Wood (Maintenance Planner) was instrumental in finding this dock lift a home at CMAST.
*CMAST is the NC State owned Center for Marine Science & Technology building on the Carteret County Community College campus in Morehead City.

Staff: Housekeeping Recognition
Carlos Gutierrez, H2 Zone Supervisor, gave a shoutout to his team and others who stepped in the midst of unfamiliarity due to COVID-19. The teams worked together by being flexible and doing everything requested to keep the campus safe by lending a hand to other zones such as A1, A2, A4N, and the Greek House. Carlos said, "I couldn't have asked for a better team!"

Service: Internal Collaboration
Telvin Parker provided great customer service in the Facilities Warehouse by sorting, packing, stacking, loading, and unloading 10 pallets consisting of 152 boxes of filters all for Zone 2. His service allowed Wayne Prescot and Jonathan Dempsey to continue the day-to-day warehouse operations. Wayne stated that "[Telvin's actions were] truly impressive and admirable, not to mention he performed his day-to-day deliveries to the other areas of campus as well."
