WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7
FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY &
COMMUNION SUNDAY
10:00am on Zoom
Focus Scripture: Mark 1:29-39
Join us as we gather for live worship on Zoom Sunday, February at 10:00am for the Fifth Sunday after Epiphany and Communion Sunday. Continuing through the first chapter of Mark’s gospel, we encounter another miraculous healing, that of Simon’s mother-in-law. In this story Jesus arrives at Simon’s house and heals the feverish mother. She seems to immediately get back up, and even begins to serve Jesus and the audience. Pastor Mary Sue offers that there is a deep message for us all about the healing power of Jesus’ touch. Further, within the passage we are shown a model, through Jesus’ own demonstration, of how to take a moment away from the chaos for restoration of the self through prayer.
Please note that the Zoom link to this service will be included in the "Worship from Home" email sent out on Saturday.

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
SEEKING SPECIAL MUSIC SUBMISSIONS: Music Director, Andy Riggs, is requesting videos for Special Music. If you can sing, play an instrument, dance, or something else musical or creative, please connect with Andy. He will give you instructions on what is needed, and will be happy to help you with any technology or music needs. Email him at music@povucc.org. Thank you!
CCSA CHRISTMAS DONATIONS: Our donations were used to purchase gift cards, which were gratefully received by needy clients. CCSA also uses donations throughout the year to buy food commodities at discounted prices, and distributes bags of groceries. Current needs for the Pacific Beach location, which services the homeless include: old backpacks, men’s pants or shorts (size 34 and above), plastic utensils with a napkin (either pre-packaged or placed in a Ziploc bag), disposable hand cleaning wipes in small packets, plastic grocery bags, travel-size deodorant.
CAMP STEVENS: Back in November 2019, our Board of Ministries planned a Church Camp retreat at Camp Stevens in Julian. Two of our Partnership Churches have used their facilities and have glowing reports of the beauty of the campground, the friendliness of the staff, and the great food service—plus it is only an hour’s drive from San Diego!
The pandemic forced us to cancel our original date in May 2020, but Camp Stevens is allowing us to apply our deposit to a new date, April 23-25, 2021. They have made COVID safe adjustments, allowing for social distancing, and family pod cabins. We will be sharing the camp with Kensington Community Church (KCC), who have made it an annual outing.
For those who would like to camp overnight, there are a limited number of COVID spaced rooms for families (or pods) up to 4 people, which we will be sharing with KCC. Saturday, from 9:30 to 5:30, is available with some meal service, for a lovely day trip. La Mesa UCC had 30 overnighters and 30 more day use people last October and reported a lovely, COVID safe experience.
If you are interested, please notify Susan Namba (rknamba@cox.net) or Pam Crusberg (pcrusberg@aol.com), by February 28.
