Dear Parish Family,
February 5, 2021
We have two exciting announcements about our staff!
Fr. David Smith
We are happy to welcome Fr. David Smith, MIC to St. Patrick! Fr. David is a newly ordained Marian priest from Azusa, California and will be assisting our parish for months to come.

Learn more about him here.
Deacon Vic has been appointed Director of Formation for the Diocese of Joliet Diaconate Program! He will oversee the training of men preparing for ordination as Permanent Deacons. Congratulations Deacon Vic!

Used Car
Looking for a reliable car to drive to church on Sundays
...Well, actually on other days, too.  Do you have a reliable car you are willing to donate to the parish?  Fr. David will need his own car to travel between the rectory and the church for Masses and to conduct his other parish work. Fr. Matt is too frugal or some say cheap (he claims he gets it from his Dad) to rent a car for the time Fr. David is here.

Please email susansmerz@stpatrickyorkville.org if you are able to help us out! It's tax deductible... :)
Transforming Lives
Alpha
Got questions about life, its meaning, and your purpose? Know someone you wish could encounter Jesus, return to church, strengthen their faith, or just connect with people of faith? Try Alpha and bring a friend! Our next upcoming virtual Alpha is on Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30 PM.

Alpha is a chance to ask big questions and explore the Christian faith in a fun, non-pressurized environment. Each session includes a short film and a discussion where you can share what you think with a small group of people just like you. Alpha is for the believer, the non believer and everyone in between. Come join in a meaningful conversation and build new relationships while having fun.

We'd love to see you ALL. Virtual Alpha is not limited by zip code. Join us from anywhere! Visit our website for more information and to register.

Making Church Matter
Ash Wednesday is Wednesday, February 17.
We will have Liturgy of the Word services at 6:30 AM, Noon, and 5 PM. Masses will be at 8 AM and 7 PM. The 7 PM Mass will also be Live Streamed. Register to attend in-person on our website.

Watching the Live Stream but would still like to receive ashes? Park in the West parking lot following the 6:30AM, 8AM, Noon, or 5PM services and Deacon Doug will distribute them to you in your car.

A new distribution process will be used amidst the pandemic. For more information, click here.
Stations of the Cross
Pray the Stations of the Cross in-person or virtually.
Every Friday during Lent, there will be in-person Stations of the Cross after the 8 AM daily Masses. This year, we will also be sharing virtual Stations of the Cross every Friday evening.
Pope Francis has declared a Year of St. Joseph!
On December 8, 2020, the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of Saint Joseph as patron saint of the universal Church, Pope Francis issued the Apostolic Letter Patris Corde as an extended reflection of the holy foster father of Jesus and spouse of Mary.

Learn more about the Year of St. Joseph, how to receive a plenary indulgence this year.
Building Disciples Through Service, Prayer, and Giving
40 Days for Life begins February 17! Knowing that “with God, all things are possible,” people of faith and conscience unite across the world in 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion.

Sign-up to pray here.
Online Giving
Online Giving is an easy, consistent way to donate to our parish. It eliminates writing checks and the need to use the church envelope system. This "touchless" form of giving is convenient for the donor and very useful to the parish because income is received consistently. If parishioners are unable to join us for mass, the offerings received through Online Giving are very helpful in continuing to support our vision, meeting payroll, and paying our bills. To donate, please sign-in or register on our website here.
The Catholic Answer
INTRODUCING: The Catholic Answer! Do you have a question about the Catholic faith? Do you ever wonder why we do certain things at Mass? Ask away with our new anonymous form on our website and we may answer it in one of our newsletters! To start it off, we answered a commonly asked question during Lent: What is the purpose of fasting?
What is the purpose of fasting during Lent? Throughout Lent we are called to "fast from" or "give up" something. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, we fast and abstain from meat. Why? Fasting is a way to "exercise" our freedom. Every muscle needs to be trained to grow stronger. Similarly, our will needs to be trained to follow God's Will. Our desires can cloud our judgement of what we truly want and need. It's not a competition either, but an exercise of freedom.
