Supporting Researchers - new programmes update
Over the next few months we’ll be launching some new materials and programmes for various groups around the University. Even if these aren’t relevant to you, we hope that you might pass details on to others in your group, school or institute.
More information is available here
A programme to help research staff think ahead about their careers will open later this year. We’ll update you on this as the dates and application process is finalised (many places will be available!)
Open at the moment are two others – Refocus Research and a Women of Colour leadership programme.
Refocus Research is a programme for mid-career academics who for personal and/or professional reasons have lost focus on their research over the last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The programme is designed to help realign with priorities and vision for the future, as well as giving practical resources to help achieve goals. Please fill in your details here by Friday February 5th and note that we will start the programme in March/April, running it through to September/October (dates are almost finalised and will appear here once confirmed).
Women of Colour in Research Leadership is a Senior Leadership programme is designed for women of colour, who are at grade 8 or 9 and are aiming to move forward in their academic leadership. Taking place over 6 months, the course offers the opportunity to develop a cohort of 24 peers, receive specialist training, hear from inspiring speakers and take part in both 121 coaching and action learning. The deadline for applications is Monday 22nd February at 9am and you should apply here. For any further information about any of these programmes please contact sara.shinton@ed.ac.uk

The Get Connected day is an informal induction event for new research staff and academics, in all Schools / Colleges, who have recently joined the University. It’s also suitable for new post-docs who have previously done their doctoral studies at the University. As this event currently can’t be run as an on-campus networking event, we have updated the Get Connected Welcome Event webpage and added an online guide and some short videos, to be used as digital resources to support induction and orientation.

2020 Postdoc Seminar Series was a great success! We learnt from the work of fantastic postdocs in the University of Edinburgh. We would like to thank all participants and hope you keep supporting these seminars through 2021. We are now organizing the new series and we need new speakers.
We encourage EVERY POSTDOC, from any university campus, at any stage of their postdoctoral career to give it a try. You don’t need to have a complete story to participate. You can use this to practice for a conference talk, to talk about your preliminary results or your innovative ideas! We are looking forward to knowing more about the research our postdocs are carrying out.
If you are keen to participate as a speaker, or have any question, please drop us an email to g2pd@ed.ac.uk

The Reflect Course
Hosted by the University Chaplaincy and part of the Core Abundant Academy Programme, the course provides an opportunity on how to reflect and lead others into deeper reflection: reconnecting with our values, identity, sense of purpose, integrity, joy, and the difference we make to the world. With spaciousness to reflect, we can respond wisely and compassionately, rather than reactively, frenetically, or desperately, to the challenges we face. There are student and staff tracks.
