Not only is February a busy month for career events and recruitment activity, it is also a month to celebrate student success. In the following articles you'll read how student employees are retained at higher rates and how MU grads continue on a path of achievement based on the record-breaking 2020 career outcomes results.

Our talented students show time and again they are pursuing excellence and we are grateful for our faculty and staff partners who are providing advising, mentorship and referrals to help them be successful!
The MU Outcomes Survey provides insight into the career plans of Mizzou graduates and tells a story of student success. The campus published results from the Class of 2020 and a record-breaking  93.4% of Mizzou graduates have successful outcomes within six months of spring graduation. Those numbers are all the more impressive given that spring graduates were facing an uncertain job market in the midst of a pandemic. It's clear that our students are capable, skilled and resilient.

We encourage you to explore all of the results on the Career Outcomes website and to share this with resource with students. Users can look at the data by School/College and explore interactive graphs on employment, continuing education, industry and geographic location. Here are some highlights from our 2020 graduates:
There are several virtual career fairs occurring in the months of February and March. Please encourage students to RSVP explore the attending employers and available positions by logging into Handshake for more information. All majors and class years are welcome to participate!
The Peace Corps
Let students know that the Peace Corps offers international opportunity for service

In early 2020, the global pandemic led the Peace Corps to remove around 8,000 volunteers from service settings in 60 counties. The Peace Corps is currently reviewing each country and each site for a planned return to service. Service will begin again once volunteer safety and security can be assured at each site. As a result, the Peace Corps has limited vacancies through mid-2021. Service settings should be more abundant in 2022.

Now is a good time to share information from the Peace Corps with freshman, sophomores and junior level students. A student at one of these year in college can tailor their college career and service experiences to support a competitive Peace Corps application.

If you have students who may be interested in learning more about the Peace Corps, please share the following information with them:
  • Learn more about Peace Corps history, service and get COVID updates at www.PeaceCorps.gov.
  • Attend an Info Session about the Peace Corps on Wednesday, February 17. Join MU Campus Recruiter Trevor Harris and others in a one-hour virtual discussion on 2/17 about the kinds of Peace Corps’ roles, the benefits before and after service and how to apply. Q& A follows. Register today by clicking here.
  • Talk with a recruiter at the March 3rd CAFNR/Arts & Sciences Virtual Career Fair
  • Join Trevor during his Spring 2021 semester virtual office hours. These happen each Wednesday from 9-11am and Thursday from 1-3pm.
Volunteers Needed!
Student Employee Advisory Board

The MU Career Center is seeking dedicated student employees for a Student Employee Advisory Board who would be willing to contribute on a voluntary basis in discussions for enhancing the student employment experience. This opportunity is highly recommended for students interested in gaining analytical ability, critical thinking, problem solving and leadership skills.

Interested student employees will need to submit an application and resume for consideration by February 12th. The Student Employee Advisory Board operations are expected to start during the spring 2021 semester. To maintain continuity of the board, we encourage students who are graduating after December 2021 to apply. The opportunity is open to all student employees regardless of undergraduate or graduate status. We hope you will share this opportunity with your student employees.

For further information and for submitting applications please visit: https://missouri.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6Gydg7CtpjekcWG. Questions should be directed to Amanda Purchase Roberts or Mr. Unmesh Edwankar. With this opportunity, we look forward to nurture and enhance the learning experience for student employees.

Retention Higher Among Student Employees

Based on analysis of 2019-2020 on-campus student employees, on-campus employment is associated with higher retention for new first-year students, transfer students, and continuing undergraduate students. This also applies for underrepresented minority incoming freshmen and continuing undergraduate students.

Note: FTC = First-Time College, URM = Under Represented Minority

If you are a supervisor of student employees or provide support of student employees in the work you do, “thank you!” You are contributing to the success of our students by mentoring, providing financial support and offering meaningful opportunities to help student employees connect to our campus community. Students are actively seeking employment at MU and we hope you will continue to promote opportunities on HireMizzouTigers.com powered by Handshake to give access to all students.
