Black History Month Events at North

Hello all Vikings!

February 1st marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time devoted to honoring all of the groundbreaking work Black leaders have done for this country. This month originates from the work of Dr. Carter G. Woodson who created Negro History Week in Washington, DC in February 1926. The goal of the week was to illuminate the black experience and to use it and black culture as a weapon in the struggle for racial uplift. The week would later become expanded into a full month by President Gerald R. Ford in 1976 after the bicentennial of the US.

We come together this month to reflect on Black leaders who have made priceless deposits into the account of our nation's history, as well as celebrate the future of our youth. Below are the upcoming events that will be hosted this month by many of our students and staff from North High.

Please understand, these events are open to any and everyone in the North community as the goal is to create awareness and unity among all.  Please check North Facebook page for the links to join the events.
