Celebrating Black History Month 2021 — Decanal Lecture

In celebration of Black History Month, Dean Melanie Woodin invites everyone to hear distinguished historian and Harvard Professor Vincent Brown on "The Coromantee War: Charting the Course of an Atlantic Slave Revolt”. Professor Melanie Newton from the Department of History will moderate the discussion tonight at 7 pm.

CIHR 2021 Spring Project Grants: A&S Proposal Support and CIHR Online Sessions

Faculty are encouraged to consider the Project Grant program, providing research funding for ideas with the greatest potential to advance health-related fundamental or applied knowledge, health research, health care, health systems and/or health outcomes.

Supporting Humanities Research Town Hall

On February 11, 2021 early and mid-career humanities scholars are invited to share their ideas on how U of T supports can help to strengthen scholarly achievement and impact. This session is an opportunity to explore what is working well, where there are gaps and how the University can collectively advance supports for the humanities research community. The resulting dialogue will contribute to recommendations to the VP, Research & Innovation and Strategic Initiatives.

A&S Welcomes Back Alumnus Colin Asuncion for Another Bake-Along

Join the Arts & Science community on February 19, 2021 for a live bake-along workshop led by Great Canadian Baking Show finalist, and A&S alumnus, Colin Asuncion. Colin will lead us step-by-step through the process of making two delicious treats in this Muffin Masterclass. Let’s all take a break and enjoy doing something fun and positive for our well-being. Environment and Climate Change Canada Funding Programs

Environment and Climate Change Canada is now accepting applications for its open funding programs. A&S faculty may apply as Principal Investigators to:

  • Climate Action and Awareness Fund (CAAF)
    • Funding from $25,000 to $1.8 million. Deadline: February 25, 2021
  • Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk (AFSAR)
    • Funding from $10,000 to $50,000 for a maximum of two years. Deadline: March 2, 2021
  • Habitat Stewardship Program for Species at Risk (HSP)
    • Funding from $25,000 to $100,000 per project for a maximum of two years. Deadline: March 2, 2021

SELECT Languages — Request for Proposals

The Faculty of Arts & Science is now accepting proposals for the Study Elsewhere of Less Commonly Taught (SELECT) Languages for Research Purposes Fund. SELECT contributes funding for graduate students to study a language required for their research if the language is not regularly taught at U of T. Graduate units should forward all eligible applications to graduate.artsci@utoronto.ca no later than March 1, 2021.

Connaught Global Challenge Research Program: A&S Proposal Development Support

Proposal development and editorial support is available to any A&S faculty members interested in applying for the 2021–22 Connaught Global Challenge Research grant program.

The Global Challenge competition is open to all U of T full-time research faculty, with grants up to $250,000 each (up to four proposals normally funded). There is also an additional $150,000 available through a new supplementary stream called the Connaught Global Research Impact Program (C-GRIP) which provides additional funding for Global Challenge teams who wish to partner internationally to achieve the goals of the Connaught Global Challenge.   • A&S editorial review: please submit draft proposals by March 22, 2021
  • Application deadline: April 19, 2021 (submitted via MRA with Divisional approvals)
