News from the CHMS PTO

Update from Dr. Brown

As you may be aware, we are in the process of transitioning from hybrid/remote learning models into full in-person/remote learning models for the fourth quarter, starting Monday, April 5. While there are many components which are being adjusted, I wanted to provide a few updates and reminders of those which we are already certain:

  1. The end of the third quarter and second trimester (6th grade Exploratories only) are being adjusted and will both now coincide to conclude on Friday, March 26. The start of the fourth quarter, and our updated learning models (full in-person/remote), will begin the day after Spring Break, Monday, April 5.

  2. As there will be adjustments to schedules and/or teachers for students, it is imperative that all third quarter assignments/tests are completed prior to your family leaving for Spring Break. This also includes any on-level math test retakes.

  3. While Spring Break is from March 29 – April 2, we encourage that all students attend classes both the last week of March and first week of April during this unique transition for their academic benefit. In the occasion should this not be a possibility, please complete the attendance link. Here is the Pre Planned Absence Form, which is the form to complete to begin that process for any trip/vacation, and please start communicating with your teachers as soon as possible. When traveling, please always follow the safety guidelines from IDPH and/or CDC to stay safe both on your trip and upon return.

  4. As circumstances related to COVID are constantly dynamic, we have yet to determine an exact date(s) and/or format for eighth grade graduations at both Middle Schools. As we begin to land on specifics, I will be sure to communicate out for planning purposes.

There will definitely be more details and information in the coming days, so please be sure to check your emails, including the PTO Newsletter.

Thank you so much as always,

Dr. Levi Brown

CHMS Principal

Pizza Wars … Pandemic Style

We are so excited to bring back everyone’s favorite… Pizza Wars! Plan on eating delicious pizza at least three times in March to help support local businesses and our school by ordering from these great restaurants. A portion of sales will be donated back to the CHMS PTO, and a link to an online voting form will be sent to all students the week of spring break. Each voter will be entered into a raffle to win fabulous prizes. Save these dates and look for more details to come.

In Case You Missed Our 2/18 PTO Meeting

We had a great PTO meeting on Thursday morning, February 18. The Board shared what’s been going on at school and phase one of their strategic planning, Dr. Brown answered important questions about returning to school (or going remote) on Monday, April 5, and Kim Anderson shared wonderful high school and college insights.

If you missed the meeting but would like to watch the video, please contact president@chmspto.org and we’ll send you the link.

Fortnightly

Fortnightly is a Hinsdale tradition of proper etiquette and dance lessons that has been around for over 60 years. All local 8th grade students are invited to participate.

Students can choose either Thursday or Friday evenings, and the program runs through March and April. Check your mailboxes for your invitation.

Details on Fortnightly can be found here.
