The Shelter Scoop

February 2021 Volunteer Newsletter from Centre County PAWS

Hello <<First Name>>!

This month, our Shelter Scoop will be a bit different in order to feature some recent changes and in an effort to keep you as informed as possible. I am pleased to share that the Operations Team we set up in the fall of last year will no longer be an interim plan. Megan will continue as Operations Manager, Mandy as Kennel Manager, and Colin as Medical Manager.

The transition from 1 Director of Operations into a small team of 3 managers has certainly not been without its challenges and hiccups. I held the role for over a decade and I think we all worked very well together, so the adjustment has taken some time. Megan, Mandy, and Colin have shown me that they are up to the task of navigating that change and are very committed to PAWS.

I thank you for your patience and support as we help the Operations Team be as efficient, effective, and successful as possible.  Below is a rundown of current staffing (it makes it pretty long). Please be assured that even though the total number of staff has increased, our volunteers have been missed during this pandemic. Volunteers are the heart and soul of PAWS. I look forward to having you back, if you've been away!

Best,

Lisa Bahr
Executive Director

Volunteer of the Month: Bronnie McLaughlin

This month's Volunteer of the Month is Bronnie McLaughlin, who is a cat foster. Congratulations Bronnie! Check out the blog to learn more about Bronnie here.
The Volunteer of the Month gets a blog feature on our website and their very own parking space! The Volunteer of the Month can be anyone who logged hours during the previous month or a volunteer who has logged 1,500 hours. The volunteer will be contacted via email. If a youth volunteer wins, their parent or guardian will be able to use the parking space. Make sure to log your hours!

Upcoming Events

Our Annual Comedy Club Event cannot take place this year. To take its place, we are planning a fun-filled virtual PAWS Pajama Party. Since COVID continues to keep us apart let’s just get comfy, have a good time, and raise funds for our animals.

The event will be held Friday, March 19 beginning at 6:30 p.m. It will feature a raffle, silent auction, pets in PJs, and the creative content you’ve come to know from us. Stay tuned for more information!

If you are interested in participating as a sponsor or item sponsor, email alicia@centrecountypaws.org.

Pavers

Volunteers, many of you have mentioned to us that you want to order a brick but keep forgetting. This is your reminder! We would love to reach 150 bricks by the end of this month, so we can order the bricks and get started.

Reminder - We are working with LandServ, Inc. to bring our volunteers and staff a beautiful outdoor gathering space that will overlook Happy Valley and provide stunning sunset views. Laser-engraved bricks will be placed throughout the outdoor patio. This is your opportunity to not only help PAWS raise imperative funds but also to commemorate your involvement and individual journey with Centre County PAWS.

There are many different options for your engraved brick - please click here for more information and to make your mark on our new outdoor patio. We look forward to enjoying this unique space with all of you in the near future!

Adoption Updates

Love following up on our furry friends? Lots of our adopters check back in and while we can't post them all here, we post them on our Facebook page.  Check out the Happy Tails 2020 album on Facebook.
Tundra was recently adopted after being pretty shy at PAWS. Now that she's had some time in her new home, she enjoys cuddling and hanging out with her canine sibling!
Shy guy Taco is settling into his new home very well and even started taking care of business by putting in some hours at his owner's office.
Priya (formerly Peanut) was adopted last month by someone who was willing to look past her slightly-grumpy exterior and see the belly-rub-loving cat underneath. As you can see, Priya is being pampered now.

Happy February Birthday!
