At the Legislature for the first time since being elected!

It has been a busy busy month
While our government continues to roll out supports for all British Columbians, I have also been keeping busy...

  • Finally made my way to Victoria to set up my work there
  • Met with 17 individual constituents
  • Met with 14 Community Organizations
  • Delivered information about Small Business Supports around the community
  • Got my training to vaccinate British Columbians with the COVID-19 vaccines
Dear Community Member,

This month has been focused on building on the programs and supports our government has promised in our Stronger BC Plan. We have also been trying to connect with constituents and organizations for feedback on these supports, and what we can bring to the spring sitting of the Legislature, which starts March 1st.

Most recently, our government updated and expanded Work Experience Grants for the third intake to help create a more inclusive and barrier free economy. Since last year, more than 5000 people on income or disability support experienced job loss. We have been actively working to bring back those jobs and more for everyone affected.

While there have been concerns over recent exposure events in BC Schools, we have almost no transmission as a result of these events. Nonetheless, our province has committed significant resources and policy to ensuring K-12 remains safe for students, parents, teachers and school workers. If we start to see transmission events, there will be swift reaction and new policies in place, but let's hope it does not come down to that.

The word of our Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant has been spreading and it is great to see businesses get the support they need. Of course, our government can only do so much and we must act as a community to support our local businesses and shop local. Check out MarketplaceBC.ca or Not-Amazon.ca for some great ideas of local businesses. I am also in the works of making a North Shore specific small business support site.

Finally, we have been focused on committing resources towards communities across the province to allow them to rebuild and recover from the effects of Covid-19 and its restrictions. This includes investments in infrastructure as well as significant resources to help those most vulnerable, including a recently announced $100million fund for homelessness response for local governments and First Nations

As always, if you have questions, need any assistance with provincial COVID-19 supports, or other provincial issues, please reach out. My office can be reached at 604-983-9852 or Susie.Chant.MLA@leg.bc.ca.

Sincerely,
