Welcome to the latest edition of the Werriwa e-Newsletter.

This week, Parliament sat for the second time this year. Despite strong opposition, the Government continued their pursuit to cut workers’ pay with their changes to the Fair Work Act.

The Prime Minster told Australians that we were first in the queue for a COVID-19 vaccine. Although the roll out of the vaccine will begin next week, the promise of having four million people vaccinated by the end of March will be a hard task. Australians need to be assured they’ll have access to the vaccine in a safe and secure manner. We have seen COVID-19 numbers go down world-wide, showing the vaccine does work. The Government must prioritise the most vulnerable Australians first so we can take our first step out of this Pandemic.

I will be back in Parliament House on Monday and will continue to voice the concerns of Werriwa and represent you all.

This Week in Parliament

This week in Parliament I spoke in the House of Representatives supporting the Senate's Motion to recognise International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

This is personal for me, but also for many other families. Recognition, research and funding are essential if we are to change the statistics for the better.

Mobile Offices

I will be holding another set of Mobile Offices on Saturday 27 February.

Mobile offices are a great way to stay in touch and let me know what issues matter to you and your family.

I can assist with Federal matters including My Aged Care, Immigration, NDIS, NBN, Centrelink, Veteran’s Affairs, or if you would just like to chat.

I will again be joined by Liverpool City Councillors Nathan Hagarty and Charishma Kaliyanda.

Restrictions Eased

From Friday 12 February 2021, changes to COVID-19 rules affect the capacity limits for some venues in the Greater Sydney region. There are also changes to the requirements for wearing a face mask.

• Up to 30 visitors from any number of households may visit another household on any day. The total number of visitors includes adults and children. (A member of the hosting household is not counted as a visitor.)
• No more than 50 people can gather outside in a public place which includes public parks, reserves, beaches, public gardens and spaces.
• A maximum of 300 people may attend a wedding or a funeral subject to the square metres rule applicable at the venue.
• Indoor hospitality venues are generally restricted to one person per 2 square metres. For small venues, up to 25 people are allowed before the one person per 2 square metres rule applies.

All Gyms in NSW must continue to apply the 4 square metres rule.

Happy Lunar New Year

Last week marked the Lunar New Year. 

The Chinese and Vietnamese communities who are celebrating Lunar New Year make up a very special part of our diverse Werriwa community.

I wish everyone a happy year of the Ox.

Workshop - Confidently Teach Your Learner Driver

Liverpool City Council are offering a free workshop for anyone who wants to learn how to become a more confident supervisor for your learner driver.

The Workshop will be held on Thursday, 25 February from 6:00pm-8:00pm at 33 Moore Street, Liverpool (Corner of George Street) - Meet in the Foyer.

Recyclable Drop off

If you find yourself with extra recyclables and not enough room in your recycling bin, and live in the Campbelltown City Council, then the Free Recyclables Drop Off Day could be just what you need.

It is a part of Council's commitment to being sustainable and environmentally conscious.

The event will be held on Saturday 20 February from 8:00am-12:00pm.

Highlights from Parliament

There were many great speeches delivered in Parliament this week. Below are just a few of my favourites.

Julian Hill

My colleague Julian Hill gave a strong speech regarding the handling of the sexual assault allegation by the Prime Minister.

Meryl Swanson

Meryl spoke passionately on the crisis in aged care and why senior Australians deserve the best quality care available.

Andrew Leigh

Dr Leigh pleaded on behalf of Australians asking the Government why they won't disclose some of the issues that have been raised by sensible critics about the JobKeeper program.
