Last month, we shared the announcement that Goodnights Comedy club will be closing its doors later this year. And while there is no official closing date, people aren’t afraid to show their feelings towards this news —
Reader Celeste R. says, “I’m greatly saddened to hear the news about the changes that are coming to Morgan St. and Charlie Goodnights. It will be very much missed on my walks to the YMCA, not to mention the memories from late ‘80s and early ‘90s college years at the club.”
The comedy club has been a local entertainment staple since 1983 + has featured some of the best comedians, including Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, and Ellen DeGeneres.

The future of Goodnights
It looks like a new mixed-use property called 865 Morgan may take over the former Goodnights space. HM Partners (the developers behind Edison Lofts, the Dawson, and Powerhouse Square) is currently under contract to buy the site + has already filed rezoning plans with the City of Raleigh.
If approved, the new development would feature 401 apartments, 9,000 sqft. of retail space + a parking deck. Construction is slated to begin in 2022.
However, don’t fret because this is not a goodbye. Goodnights is expected to reopen in another location + has an active calendar of comedy events for the foreseeable future. |

Believe it or not, this isn’t a scene out of Jurassic Park. This photo was actually snapped on the West Ellerbee Creek Trail in Durham.
There’s no need to be alarmed if you stumble upon this 30-foot brontosaurus made out of cement. Back in 1967, the gigantic dinosaur was a part of an interactive exhibit for the Museum of Life and Science (formerly known as the then known as the Bull City Children’s Museum.) But due to Hurricane Fran in 1996, the exhibit was destroyed + only a single dino survived.
