Good Day,
As I write to you today, I need to highlight the fact that we have 76 days of school remaining. Of those, 38 are Blue and 38 are Green. It’s crazy to think that there are, potentially, only 38 more in-person days for hybrid students and only 38 live lesson days for DTLA students through the end of the school year. As a result, attendance for in-person and virtual live lessons must be everyone’s priority. Maximizing this instructional and interactive time will be crucial to finishing the year strong and getting the most out of every lesson.
With that said, please see below for this week’s highlights.
Quarter 2 Report Cards
Quarter 2 report cards are now available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. To access your child’s report card, login to the parent portal and on the left hand side click on Student Reports directly above the Forms link. Once you are in Students Reports, you can view your child’s report card.
Black History Month
This month, we have been sharing a quote of the day in honor of Black History Month during morning announcements and we will continue to do so through the end of February. If you have a quote that you would like to share for consideration to be read, please email it to me at mlaskowski@stamfordct.gov along with who the quote is from. So far, I have shared quotes from Lebron James, Duke Ellington, Kamala Harris, James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, Muhammad Ali, Jason Reynolds, Amanda Gorman, Oprah Winfrey, Kobe Bryant, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Additionally, The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford Yerwood Center recently hosted a celebration of Dr. Joyce Yerwood, who served as the first African-American physician in Fairfield, Connecticut. Dr. Yerwood devoted over 50 years providing quality medical care to families. Please take some time with your family to learn more about this local African-American leader here.
CORE Committee Discussions
While Connecticut residents 65 years of age or older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, we continue to look forward to the time when all of our teachers and staff are eligible. Our CORE Committee has already begun discussions about what impact this will have on educational options in Stamford. Please continue to join our biweekly CORE committee meeting as we begin to have this discussion and for the most up-to-date information. The agendas with links to the meetings can be found on the Reopening Core Committee page of the website.
2021-2022 Budget Update
This week the Stamford Board of Education took the first step in approving our 2021-2022 operating budget, as presented. We will provide you with the details of the upcoming meetings of the Boards of Representatives and Finance, who are next to review our proposed budget and vote, so you may provide input and show your support.
COVID Case Reporting
Please be advised that I will continue to keep both staff and families updated by reporting the number of positive cases each week within my end of the week emails. Additionally, we will continue contact tracing immediately upon notification of a positive case and the health and safety of all Rippowam community members will remain at the forefront of all that we do.
