Dear Friends,
It is now a year since we first became affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Last March we rapidly had to transition our face-to-face work to online delivery and postpone all our planned professional training for 6 months. I could never have envisaged the many achievements that the whole team would have to make during this time!
The number of referrals to our services is still 60% above what we would expect at this time of year. As with previous Lockdowns, we are expecting a surge of referrals as restrictions are gradually lifted. We are aware that the full impact of COVID-19 will continue to manifest itself in different ways in the months and years to come. Of particular concern is how this will affect those with existing and emerging mental health difficulties and the possible impact for parents on their relationships with their babies.
It has been a challenging year for funding and fundraising: many trusts and funders have furloughed their own staff, and community fundraising has also been affected.
We have just launched our Easter Campaign and would welcome any support that you are able to provide. Please donate the price of an Easter Egg to help families receive Parent-Infant Therapy.
I want to thank all of you who have supported us in so many way this past year, and a huge thank you to all the OXPIP Team and Trustees for their dedication to our Charity.

Spring is the time of year when we reflect on new beginnings. With beautiful spring flowers popping up and evenings getting longer, we often start to feel more hopeful. However, we know that for many families, this time of year remains a struggle, and with change and uncertainty about the future, we expect there to be another surge of referrals for families to our services.

OXPIP and New Chamber Opera - Summer Opera 2021
|
|
|
|
|
In anticipation of events being able to take place in the summer, New Chamber Opera intends to perform on Tuesday 6th July 2021 to raise money for OXPIP. NCO will be staging the opera that was deferred last summer, Galuppi’s La Diavolessa, a comedy from 1755; the libretto is by Carlo Goldoni.
Although we are not able to take bookings for the opera at the moment, if you would like to attend the performance, we would be very pleased if you would express your interest via our website.

Our new Chair of Trustees, Rob Kenny, will be running a non-stop 'Tour de OXPIP' which is the equivalent of 3 Marathons (79 miles!!) in June. He will run across Oxfordshire from Banbury, down to Didcot, and will be passing all the OXPIP project centres as he does so. More information about how you can get involved and donate to follow!

This year, OXPIP’s London Marathon place has gone to Jon Gibbard, a local Oxfordshire dad, keen runner and supporter of OXPIP. Jon is raising money for OXPIP by not only running the London Marathon, but also a 50 mile race (two weeks before) - ‘Chiltern Wonderland 50’.

Despite the many funding challenges over the past year since COVID-19 first struck, we have sustained funding for almost all our Projects, for which we are very thankful. As the full implications of the pandemic and sustained social restrictions are acknowledged, OXPIP's Parent-Infant Therapy and the work that we do is resonating with funders. We continue to apply for any available, appropriate funding and we remain hopeful that we will sustain funding in 2021.

A big Thank You to the National Lottery Community Fund for confirmation of its COVID-19 funding support for March - June; to our Private Donors for confirmation of their renewed funding support, and to all our funders (who prefer to remain anonymous) who make our OXPIP Projects possible.

To manage the increasing demand for our services, we have been able to increase the number of Therapists delivering our Parent-Infant Therapy. Whilst the majority of this clinical work has been delivered online, there have been some families unable to access therapy in this way, so we have seen them for socially distanced sessions.
Our project in Banbury, with The Sunshine Centre, has been particularly successful this year and we are very thankful to our private donor for supporting this project and for recently increasing the Parent-Infant Therapy. We are in the process of appointing an additional Parent-Infant Therapist for this extended project.
All clinical staff have now had their first COVID-19 vaccination (and are scheduled for their second vaccination imminently) and we are making plans to hopefully return to face-face work as soon as it is safe to do so. Whilst face-to-face work is preferable for many reasons, we intend to maintain a blended approach to therapy delivery, increasing access to our service for all in Oxfordshire.

Professional Training Delivery
|

We continue to deliver our professional training courses to a wider audience online, including NHS Trusts and other Perinatal Mental Health Teams around the UK. We are also exploring plans to return to a combination of both face-to-face and online training in the future when it is safe to do so.

Next month, we are running the first of our revised Parent-Infant Group Work Trainings with Monika Celebi. This training is suitable for early years professionals who already have experience in facilitating parent-baby groups, and those planning to start a group. In February, we hosted our third online lecture, on mothers' mental health, for over 90 participants via Zoom. This was presented by Dr Gwen Adshead, forensic psychiatrist and psychotherapist. Again this was with attendees from all over the world who commented that Gwen spoke with great expertise and compassion on such a difficult and sensitive subject. A recording of Gwen's lecture is available for purchase via our website now.
