Lent
This begins with Ash Wednesday, this Wednesday, 17 February..  Lent is the 6 week period leading up to Easter.  It’s one of the most important times of year for many Christians around the world.
Lent is seen as a time of solemn observance and preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter.  From its start on Ash Wednesday until its conclusion on Easter Sunday, Lent has been a traditional time for fasting or giving something up or abstinence. (Why not take something up instead?- keep reading).  Just as we carefully prepare for events in our personal lives, eg a wedding, or birthday; a commencement in Lent invites us to make our minds and hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ life, death and body resurrection.  So for Lent this year, I invite you to join with others on a 6 week journey of short daily reading.  Each day I will send out a reading to the group (via messenger or email) and when you have read it, invite you to submit a simple thought about what you have read to the group.  In this way we can encourage and grow together.
Talk to Martin on how you can be part of this exciting group.

Who stole the door?
You would be forgiven if you wondered who stole the sea facing door of the church. It was badly needing a paint and Mark McFarland a local painter volunteered to carry out this task as a donation to the church. He has completely stripped it back to bare wood, filled all the holes and primed the wood. Already it is difficult to recognise that it is the same door. Thanks mark for your efforts. (He will also paint the entrance door we use).

Buildingng news:
Building progress
It has been another week of hard work doing all the things that are required to make progress. You will see the area the sky bridge is going in has been scaffolded ready for the work to begin. The Trubeams are up – they are held together plates secured by Tex Screws. Each plate has that many screws that it takes ½ hour to secure each side. The upstairs widows and doors have been measured.  The roof should be on within the month.

UPSTAIRS FITOUT
Our committee has been meeting and planning. This is important as it enables us to meet order dates for material. It has been exciting seeing the results of their work.
Please note: As it is a construction site, no one should enter the site – this is for everyone’s health and safety.  You can get a great view of progress from the church walkway.

Building site Morning Teas.
What a great bunch you are.  We aim to supply it once or twice a week (they joke if we did it more often they would get fat).
If you would like to be part of this blessing there are two options:
1) you could bake something and pass it on to Martin to put in the freezer so it can be brought out when needed.
2) you could tell Martin that you wanted to supply morning tea on a particular morning and Martin will check and see that there will be people on site and
co-ordinate.

Visiting If you know someone who is unwell or would benefit from being visited, please let Martin know.

PRAYER  (Marie Davidson)

There are people ready to pray with you after every service. If you would like prayer, please don’t leave here as you came – allow God to minister to you at the end of the service; simply come to the front seats and ministry will be offered.

Prayer Needs:

  • Pray for the building construction site and workers that progress will continue smoothly and safely
  • Pray for Rev Alan Missen and Jan Johnston who have both had operations. .
  • Pray for the nations that are in the midst of the battle with Covid-19 and it’s different mutations.
  • Pray for the children of Kaikoura as they commence their school year; particularly pray for those starting school for the first time, that they will transition well and that their school years assist in guiding them to grow to all that they can be.
  • Pray for KidZKlub.
  • Give thanks to God for the weather, rain and sunshine!
