The incredible transition of Steven...
You know, all we really want is to be seen,
to be heard, to be acknowledged, for who we are.
Carlo Calcagni, the Colonel, the super athlete
who uses an Alinker himself,
he saw Steven, and followed up.
He gave Steven the gift of autonomy,
of freedom, the ability to walk
and do what he wants to do,
be who he wants to be.
This is what Carlo said in this emotional video https://youtu.be/OC_pmVCzuHw
(due to the background music that gave copyright issues, you might not be able to see it), but this is what he said:
on 23 January I set the world record in Turin by running 16.5 km on the athletics track Steven seeing these images of my race with Alinker immediately began to dream of abandoning his wheelchair and as soon as I learned about his story I was able to give him this wonderful tool that can truly give autonomy and freedom to anyone who is unable to move unless accompanied. And a boy of just 11 years ... just look at his eyes and maybe mine too ... this is the meaning of my NEVER GIVE UP, try to give hope to those who may have lost that too. You must never break down in the face of life's adversities because there is always a chance to get back in the game and I believe that today I was able to give one to Steven who dreams of one day breaking my record and I can only wish him to be able to do it.
Thank you Carlo, for seeing Steven.
