St. Sophia Weekly Update

Church Services

Καλό Τριῴδιο. Good Tridion to everyone. We pray you have recovered from the chill of this week's winter storm. Chances are good that we've all been humbled in some way from this week's challenges; a timely event indeed as we begin our humble journey towards Lent. Triodion begins tomorrow and we pray you each experience the spiritual uplifting that it provides as we prepare to come closer to God.

As we mentioned in an email update on Thursday, today's Great Vespers service has been canceled. If you are able to safely join us, we will be having normally scheduled Sunday services tomorrow with Orthros and Liturgy at 9/10AM. There will be a memorial service for Luis Salas (1 Year). May his memory be eternal.

The midweek service will be on Wednesday at 9/10AM commemorating The First & Second Finding of the Venerable Head of John the Baptist

Sunday Bulletin
Print Version
The Lord said this parable, "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Prayer for Healing
You, Who are the Physician of our souls and bodies, grant recovery to the sick, raising them hastily from the bed of suffering so that they may glorify You, our Merciful Saviour, and protect the healthy ones from any disease. Bless, O Lord, strengthen and protect with Your grace all those who with philanthropy and sacrifice take care of the sick at their homes or in hospitals. Remove all disease and suffering from among the people and teach us to value life and health as Your gifts. Give us, o God, Your peace and fill our hearts with steadfast faith in Your protection, with hope in Your support and with love for You and our neighbour. For it is Yours to have mercy on us and save us, our God, and to You we give glory: to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Message from Archbishop Elpidophoros

I was filled with a special spiritual joy worshipping with the Faithful of the Metropolis of Denver. “I will sing unto the Lord throughout my life; I will chant to my God for as long as I have my being. May my words be sweet unto Him.”

Wisdom of the Fathers

It is possible for those who have come back again after repentance to shine with much lustre, and oftentimes more than those who have never fallen at all, I have demonstrated from the divine writings. Thus at least both the publicans and the harlots inherit the kingdom of Heaven, thus many of the last are placed before the first.
St. John Chrysostom
AN EXHORTATION TO THEODORE AFTER HIS FALL, 4th Century

When lately we made mention of the Pharisee and the publican, and hypothetically yoked two chariots out of virtue and vice; we pointed out each truth, how great is the gain of humbleness of mind, and how great the damage of pride.
St. John Chrysostom
