What sets The Members aside from their contemporaries is the breadth of the styles of music - sparkling guitars, throbbing basses, lush pads mix with violins whistles uillean pipes and accordians: New Wave, Surf, Glam, Reggae and Punk mutate into a soup that is both unique and british. Echoes of The Kinks and early Floyd collide with Krautrock beats and screaming leads, an abilty to write songs that tell stories and communicate directly with the listener underpins the whole album - from the social isolation of “Bedsitland” to the hypnotic filmic “The Day the world stood still” through the travelogue of the Streets of Nairobi. The Members take you on a journey from their Post Punk roots.
You travel with them from a Barbeque in the back garden to a biker pubin The Surrey hills to a trendy party in Peckham Rye to Lockdown UK in the Punk Folk historical epic “the Plague” Its a thrill to be a musician, its a thrill to dive into this world where a band that has travelled 44 years can continue write great songs and paint a soundtrack for today.
