Today, I took a nap.
90 glorious minutes.
A child tapped on my face mid-way through.
And, I embraced it as a gift through which he might become deeply aware of the treasure 'oft forgotten in our modern (but fatigued) world.
Rather than get up and attend to his needs, I turned over and told him I'd be out in a bit.
He was fine.
Sometimes the best gift we can give ourselves and others is a nap.
It's one of life's treasures.
And for those who have a hard time falling asleep, something dreamy happened this week. My first children's book, Feet, Head...Go to Bed, is now on Amazon.
My talented friend, Emma, brought it to life through her amazing illustrations. And, four-and-a-half years from the time it traveled from my heart to my keyboard...it's now available to share with you. A special thank you to my husband who never stopped believing I could do it and to my parents who even bought me ISBN numbers for my birthday this year!
And, the biggest thank you goes to that child who taps on faces during naps. His life-long protest against falling asleep inspired something that I hope helps other families as much as it has helped ours.
This book is much more than printed pages to me. It's a reminder that something good can come out of every trial.
Good or bad, happy or sad, generative or depleting: that is a choice that is completely up to us.
Zzzz...
