On Monday, February 15th, we welcome our Extensions students back to school. We are looking forward to seeing you. Wednesday, February 17th is an early release day for all students. All students who are in rotations A, B and C will return on Monday, February 22nd. Classes will begin for all students, in-person and remote at 7:15am. Please prepare for this change in the daily schedule. You can access the daily schedule and the rotation calendar using the following links:

All students who are enrolled in the eleventh grade will take the statewide ACT test, free of charge, on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 7:15am. The ACT will be offered in-person at school and is also offered to students who were juniors last year who did not get an opportunity to take the ACT.
All students who are in grades 9,10 and 12 will not report to school on Tuesday, February 23rd. It will be a day of remote learning and no live teacher lessons during that day. Teachers will provide independent assignments and an attendance form for students to complete during that class period.
Students are continuing to choose their classes for the 2021-2022 school year next week. Please remind students to complete the Google form that was sent to their email address in preparation for a meeting with their counselor.
The PTSA is seeking additional partners for membership. The cost is $10 for parents and $6 for students. You can pay online at https://northmeck.memberhub.store/store.

Virtual College Day at CPCC:

Where: Online via WebEx
Who: Seniors
What: Join sessions to learn more about what CPCC has to offer. They’ll discuss everything you need to know about applying, paying, and choosing a major or career. Even if you're still not sure what your plans are after high school, attend one or all three sessions to learn more about your future options. Free Central Piedmont T-shirt to all attendees.

CIAA Education Day - While the CIAA Tournament is longer hosted in Charlotte, our students will have the opportunity to attend their VIRTUAL Education Day this year! This event will take place virtually on February 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sophomore, Juniors, and Seniors are invited to attend. SUMMER OPPORTUNITY for Rising 11th and 12th graders - The Research Apprentice Program (RAP) @ NC A&T University –
The College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (CAES) at NC A&T invites rising 11th and 12th grade students to participate in a two-week virtual research internship program, June 7-18, 2021. The program will operate virtually from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Upon completion of the program and graduation from high school, students that enroll at NC A&T will receive an $800 scholarship. SECU ‘ People Helping People’ Scholarship –
The State Employees Credit Union will award a $10,000 scholarship to 32 CMS seniors. The scholarship will distributed over 8 consecutive semesters; $1,250 per semester. To be eligible, students must:
1). Be a State Employees Credit Union member or have a parent/guardian that is an SECU member;
2). Be a senior in a NC high school that has been accepted to one of the 16 UNC-system colleges;
3). Be a U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina;
4). Exemplify the 'People Helping People' philosophy by demonstrating leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement; 5). Have a minimum 2.5 unweighted GPA; and
6). Be deserving of financial aid.
If you meet the criteria, please complete the attached application. YOU MUST EMAIL your completed application to Mrs. Cameron BY 2:30 p.m. on THE DEADLINE. DO NOT SAVE THE DOCUMENT AS A pdf or Google doc!! Once you submit your application to Mrs. Cameron, she will give you further instructions for next steps. DUE: February 22, 2021.
The Jane Osborne Memorial Scholarship Program –
The Charlotte Metro Area Relocation Council (CMARC) is offering one scholarship to a Charlotte-area high school senior. To be eligible, students must: 1). Be a current high school senior in good standing at a Charlotte-area high school; 2). Have relocated more than 50 miles to Charlotte between grades 9-12; 3). Have changed schools due to the relocation; and 4). Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline. SAT Updates
The next test given at North will be in March 2021.

The PSAT that was scheduled for January 26 was cancelled. The College Board has put in place an option for students to submit an alternate entry application for the National Merit Scholarship Program by April 1, 2021. Students who submit the application by the April deadline, may submit an SAT score from any administration of the SAT between the dates of August 2020 – June 2021 or select to send their scores to the National Merit Scholarship Program (like they would to a college) during the SAT registration and administration process (IF they participate in the May or June SAT administration dates). The steps that students will need to take can be found on the National Merit website under the Resources tab- www.nationalmerit.org.

Senior Events
Due to the district’s plan to extend remote learning through February 22, 2021, we will be postponing the January wristband event for Seniors. We will pick back up once the extension has been lifted and will communicate the make-up date accordingly. Wristbands will be available for pick-up beginning January 19 th in the main office following the school’s hours of operation. Please email lauren.talton@cms.k12.nc.us for further questions.
