Week 4: Opening Connection Door (Acts 2:42-47)

This is the fourth study in our opening series called Opening the Church Doors. This series is both a vision for the church and an invitation for the church to contribute their voice in an ongoing conversation about where the Lord might be taking us over the next three years.

This week we give thanks that when genuine Christian community is put on display and made accessible to others to join in then the Lord adds to our numbers. We need to learn the ways of doing our life together, especially during this pandemic, that present an authentic and attractive vision of the body of Christ. If there is only one question you spend your time discussing then make it this: "how did you come to think of Oaktree as your spiritual home??"

Questions
☕️
1. How did you come to think of Oaktree as your spiritual home? How did you get connected in and who were the key people in that process? What things really made an impact on you?

📖
2. Have a look through the passage and see what elements you can see that represent the other "doors of the church" that we've already looked at. What is happening here that sounds like "heaven's door", "heart's door", and "earth's door"?
3. What is the early church doing that would build really strong and authentic connections with people?
4. What is attractive about this description of the early church?
5. What was driving this energetic and enthusiastic community? Do you think that the devotion, awe, and praise is linked to the growth of the church?

❤️
7. What experiences have you had that reflect some of this Acts 2 lifestyle of Christian faith?
8. What do you feel like you are missing out on the most right now?
9. What does devotion, awe and praise look like for us during this season?

10. What is one step you could take towards a more communal lifestyle that might help build a people movement?

Listen to the sermon

Acts 2:42-47

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
