In Structurae, you can now browse historic structures that are recognized as cultural, architectural, or technical monuments. This content is available after free registration.

Within this category, different international, national, or regional registers are included such as the ASCE's Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks, or the Australian Engineering Heritage Register, National Historic Landmarks (United States), Listed Structures in the United Kingdom, and many more.

Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, built between 1886 and 1894. Benjamin Crisler, the New York Times film critic, wrote in 1938: "Three unique and valuable institutions the British have that we in America have not: Magna Carta, the Tower Bridge and Alfred Hitchcock." >> more

Hover Dam

The Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona.Hoover Dam was recognized as a National Civil Engineering Landmark in 1984. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985, cited for its engineering innovations. >> more

Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute

Santa Maria della Salute is a baroque church in Venice at the entrance to the Grand Canal. The construction of the church lasted from 1631 to 1687. The plan of the then 33-year-old architect Baldassare Longhena for the church to be built was revolutionary. The exterior view, with its eight-sided floor plan, two domes and two campanili, also completely clad in marble, was to be particularly impressive. With the Salute Church, Longhena created a clear alternative to the Roman Baroque by placing particular emphasis on the multilayered effects of light and shadow. >> more

In the future, IABSE and Structurae will jointly produce IABSE’s bulletin series “Structural Engineering Documents” and “Case Studies”. Structurae will also be responsible for marketing and distributing past and future issues of these book series as well as recent conference proceedings online. More information soon.
