Murch Attendance Reminders

All Murch Mustangs:

  1. If your child will be absent from class, either in person or virtually, please fill out this form to inform the school of your child’s absence:
  2. Please remember to log into CANVAS every day in order to be marked present. This includes asynchronous learning days.  Your child will be marked absent if your child doesn’t log into CANVAS on Wednesdays.

Virtual learners:

  1. If your child will miss the full day of virtual learning, please fill out the form above. However, if your child is only missing part of the day of virtual learning, inform your teacher of the time missed.  As long as your child logs into CANVAS at one point during the day between the hours of 6am-12 midnight, your child will be considered present for the day.

In-person learners:

  1. Daily attendance for students who are in-person learning classrooms will be based on the attendance that your child’s teacher takes each day. If your student is not physically present at school, they will be considered absent for the day. Your child will still be considered absent even if your child signs on virtually.  However, please fill out the reason for your absence on the Murch Absence form and mark that you will be participating virtually for the day.
  2. If a student does not attend their assigned in-person learning class at least once within the first 5 days, the student will lose their seat. Additionally, in-person learning students will be withdrawn according to the attendance policy after 20 consecutive unexcused daily absences.
  3. During quarantine period(s), students are expected to log into Canvas for distance learning unless they are ill. Attendance for students during this time, whether in-person or CARE, will be based on Canvas log-ins and activity. However, it’s essential that you fill out the Murch absence form to inform the school that your child is in quarantine. In cases where students are ill and not able to log in, parents must submit an excuse note so absences can be properly noted.

CARE Classroom Learners:

  1. Daily attendance for students in CARE classrooms will continue to be based on Canvas log-ins and activity. Students will log in for virtual instruction while in their classroom, and attendance will be captured there. Staff members leading each class will also take attendance, but this in-person attendance is not used for legal daily attendance requirements.
  2. If a student does not physically attend their assigned CARE class at least once within the first 5 days, the student will lose their seat. Students will also lose seats if they accumulate 15 cumulative unexcused physical absences. Additionally, CARE students will be withdrawn from their school according to the attendance policy after 20 consecutive unexcused daily absences.

Updates for Week of 2/14/21

Good afternoon Murch Families:

Tomorrow, February 15th, is Presidents Day. There is no attendance for students and staff.

Tuesday, February 16th is a virtual learning day for ALL students. If your child is enrolled in a CARE classroom, they will be attending virtually from home. The reason this is happening is because a vast majority of teachers will be receiving their 2nd vaccination on the 15th. According to many, teachers will most likely be experiencing side effects that may prevent them from coming into work. The district decided to be proactive and make this an all virtual day.

We look forward to seeing our Thursday/Friday cohort this coming Thursday, February 18th.

Also, you may want to review the attendance protocols for both in-person and virtual learners which can be found at https://murchschool.org/murch-attendance-reminders-2/

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Get Your Kids Involved in the Auction and How Your Family Can Help!

Over the years, the Murch Auction Committee has been asked, how can we get kids get involved in the auction. Well this year we are going to try it!

INTRODUCING KID CONNECTKid Led Outings / Zoom Classes / Socially Distant Fun
This is a great way for your student to show off their amazing talents. Could they host a baking zoom class? Could they teach others how to play Pokémon or Minecraft? Could they host a hike, dance party or soccer class? Our little & big kids will love to spend time over zoom or at a distance with our older kids. Submit your idea to murchauction@gmail.com or sign up here.

SEND US KID PICTURES:
Please send us some photos of your kids doing virtual learning, going back to in-person learning or at the Murch playground. Pictures will be included in the Murch Auction video. Submit pictures to murchauction@gmail.com.

How else can your family help the Auction?

This year we are focusing on items sponsored by the Murch Community more than ever. Here is what you can do to help.

  • Support a local Business: Buy a gift card from a local restaurant/business and donate the gift card to the Murch Auction. This is a quick and easy way to support our local merchants and Murch!

  • Stock our Wine Cellar at Paul’s Liquor: Give one, get one. If you're looking to support a local business and support the  Murch Auction at the same time...have we got a deal  for you. If you go to Paul's Liquor on Wisconsin Ave. near Friendship Heights now through March 15, and say you're supporting the Murch Auction, they'll give you 20% off each wine bottle you buy. Take one home for yourself and give one (or two) to the Murch Auction for our Wine Cellar that will be auctioned off on March 20. And best part - Paul's will hold onto your donated bottles for the Auction and volunteers will get them. It's easy so support Murch and a local business - go to Paul's. If you would like to drop wine bottles off at Auction Chair's home email murchauction@gmail.com.

  • Rainbow Connections: Share Your Talents: Maybe your thing is brewing beer, sourdough baking, photography, home decor, gardening or knitting...Please donate your time as an item or service for bid. Check out the ideas and sign up for one that matches your particular interests/abilities. Here are some examples:

    • Offer to host kids for a fireside chat with s’mores while their parents can have 2 hours to themselves!
    • Have a projector? Host a socially distant movie night with a few kids.
    • Offer a one-off or monthly delivery (baked treat, science project, craft project)
    • Coffee Cab: Pick up someone’s coffee order for a week
    • Help plan a family's vacation itinerary to a place you know well
    • Cook a date night dinner

Theme of the Month for February: Perseverance

Every month, Murch focuses on different themes to help promote social/emotional learning.  Students are asked questions each week on the monthly theme and lessons are presented on that theme throughout the month.   In February, the Murch community will be focusing on perseverance.  In class, your student will be exploring questions around this theme.  Here are the questions for this month’s theme:

What is perseverance?

What does perseverance look like and sound like?

Why is perseverance important?

When have you shown perseverance?

Please feel free to continue these conversations at home to help reinforce these themes.  Last month’s theme of the month was activism.  Here’s what some of our students had to say about this theme:

Potomac Pizza Night this Wednesday, February 17

Typically the Student Council holds a bake sale around Valentine's Day to raise money for  the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Unfortunately the Student Council is unable to hold a bake sale this year. So, this year's Murch Student Council Fundraising Event to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will be held at Potomac Pizza!

When customers order on Wednesday, February 17 between 4 - 8 PM AND mention "Murch," 20% of all orders will go to Murch.

Of these proceeds, 100% will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Student Council is very excited to still be able to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society so let's support our Student Council in a big way on February 17!!
