We are beyond THRILLED and excited that Kim Walnes has agreed to speak in our educational series for CNYDCTA!!
Kim started eventing at the age of 28 and had to overcome a deep fear of jumping in order to compete in such competitions as the 1982 Eventing World Championships in Luhmuhlen, France (finishing with individual and team bronze), CCI at Boekelo, World Championships in Australia, and named alternates for the 1984 Olympic Eventing Team.
Kim is no stranger to adversity and overcoming life’s difficult obstacles. She states “ I am a very ordinary person, who happens to have had a very powerful dream.” I am inspired by all things Kim Walnes!

Dear CNYD&CTA members and supporters,
2021 is well underway and I am proud of our team working to bring more opportunities to CNY. I am happy to announce that Candace Martin-Yackel and Brianna Adams worked hard to not only fill our Vincent Flores clinic, but to gain enough interest to add an additional day. I am grateful for Kim and Nancy Asher for offering their beautiful facility for this event as well as catering. This is a very generous gesture!
I am excited to announce our first speaker in the 2021 lineup of our online educational series, Kim Walnes. Please read about this event further in this issue as well as on social media. Future speakers are scheduled for April and May — keep checking back for those details.
In addition, the club is taking a survey to gauge interest in the possibility of offering virtual shows. Take the survey, below, or send me an email to president@cnydcta.org and I will send you the link!
Spring is around the corner!
Sincerely yours,
Corrinne Spaulding

Introducing Board Member Candace Martin-Yackel
|
|
Candace Martin-Yackel joined our board in 2018 and serves as CNYD&CTA’s secretary. She has been a member off and on since the late 1990s, competing as a JR/YR first, now as an adult amateur. Her disciplines are dressage and hunters and she owns two mares. Aisling is a 2006 Irish Draft Sport Horse and Remme is a 2010 Swedish Warmblood.
Candace competed at the Northeast JR/YR horse show — now Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival — in 2000 and 2001 as a young rider, earning a silver medal in her division and winning the equitation portion in her division in 2001.
Most recently she has been working on dressage with her two mares and hopes to get them both out this summer to show at the CNYD&CTA schooling shows.
