Fresh, naturally-grown produce from our family farm in Cove, Oregon

Weekly Update

Hello friends,

So last week it looked like spring and this week winter turned on. Is this the new normal?

I hope you all are enjoying or surviving the snow. If you can, shovel out a friend, neighbor or older person. If you need help, please ask! I can help or rally some troops.

If your kids are bored, send them out on shoveling missions--that's what we're doing! We want Chloe to remember to look around and see when her neighbors need assistance.

Updates & Info this week:
  • Tuesday online gardening class
  • Farmer/Rancher workshops Feb and March
  • Info on how to sign up for a Covid vaccine in Union County

COVID Vaccine info for Union County

I wanted to make sure folks are getting info about how to get a COVID vaccine if you plan to do so. The best information is available by signing up for the CHD listserv at https://www.chdinc.org/subscribe. You can also call

I noticed all the slots are full for the planned vaccine clinics right now, but more will open up.

If you want help signing up or getting info, please call or email me!

If you are tech savvy, check in with people you know and see if you can help them get signed up.
(The CHD website is kinda tricky...)

You can also call CHD, but I've heard it is hard to get through. Call CHD at 541-962-8800, Option 8 or call 211.

The schedule I read in the paper is as follows:
  • Feb 15th- Folks 75 and over can sign up for a vaccine
  • Feb 22nd- Folks 70 and over can sign up for a vaccine
  • March 1st- Folks 65 and over can sign up for a vaccine
Also health care workers, teachers & school staff, and child care providers are also eligible.
Your grateful farmer, Nella Mae

Volunteer & Donate to the La Grande Warming Station
With all the snow that has fallen, let's remember some people are un-housed, not snuggled up inside. The La Grande Warming Station houses folks nightly so they can be safe, warm, and fed.

If you want to volunteer at the station, donate money or needed items, check out their website here.
I know a lot of folks don't have extra time, money or items, so if you can, just help spread the word!

I also made a (belated) birthday fundraiser on Facebook for the Union County Warming Station. If you want to and are able to donate, here's the link.

Here are the items listed on their wish list. You can drop them off between 5:30 and 6pm. The warming station is next to NEON, behind Sorbenots, behind the library off Adams & 3rd. Address: 2008 3rd Street, Suite B.
  • Volunteers to clean, do laundry, work shifts, or help raise funds
  • Twin/ Queen size blankets
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Frozen single-serve meals like HotPockets or burritos
  • Disposable dinnerware
  • Socks & coats
  • Non-perishable foods, canned meals like chili, soup, granola bars, & single-serve snacks

Farmer & Rancher workshops in Feb & March

The last two years I have helped organize workshops for new, beginning, aspiring, current and retiring farmers and ranchers with Rogue Farm Corps. This year the workshops are online and cover a range of topics from building a farm/ranch balance sheet to planning for farm/ranch succession to leasing and much more.

If you're interested, check out the offerings here. I highly recommend these workshops!

Sign up for my "Understanding Soil for the Home Gardener" on March 16th.
