Dear People of Hope,
Lent begins tomorrow with Ash Wednesday worship services. Bundle up if you want to come for an in-person, outdoor worship at noon at Hope- there will be ashes to administer to yourself, your household or pod. And there will be Holy Communion. As usual, we will be masked and physically distant. Later Wednesday evening, stay home and join a 7:30pm worship on zoom. Either way, we'll hear scripture, prayer, and the story of God's presence in our world.
Then this Sunday, the first Sunday in Lent, you are invited to create a home alter or worship space. This will be explained further in worship. But you may want to gather some of these items ahead of time:
candle
cross
a bowl of sand, dirt or salt
a box to collect money for financial giving
a box to collect prayers
See many of you tomorrow, either in person or online.
Peace of Christ, Pastor Julie

Join a Property Discernment Small Group Various dates, starting in Lent
You have heard that Hope has been approached by a developer with interest in redeveloping Hope’s land; you have heard that the Congregation Council recommends we seriously consider this offer; you have heard a decent amount about the proposal.
Now it is your chance to talk, ask more questions and discern in community. Join a small group to share more of your thoughts, hear from others, and consider this possibility for Hope’s future. Groups will meet every other week, 4 times (excluding Holy Week). We hope you can choose one group and attend regularly. Choose the day or time that works best for you.

movies@hope presents Bonhoeffer Friday March 5, 7:30pm
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86455123132
Join us when movies@hope commemorates the season of Lent with Bonhoeffer, a profile of the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, theologian, pastor, and war resister. In the face of the unspeakable evil of the Nazi regime and the passivity of the official church, Bonhoeffer must make a horrific choice between his pacifism and participation in the plot to assassinate Hitler -- a decision that will cost him his life. Former Hope pastor and Metro DC Synod bishop Dick Graham will introduce this stirring documentary from 2003, and will lead the discussion afterwards.
Fundraiser for PG Day Center
Nando's donates 40% of orders! Tuesday February 23, 4-8pm
Next week, Nando's on Rt 1 in College Park will donate 40% of their dinner orders to CUCE (Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment) and the PG Plaza Day Center ministry. Nando's specializes in a South African way of preparing chicken and it's terrific. Carry out orders can request everything from no spice to lots of heat.
Donating 40% is a BIG DEAL! Consider encouraging neighbors to place orders for a certain time slot- then offering to pick up all the orders and bring them to your house for easier donating.
View the menu and place orders on Nando's website:

Continued support in grieving Jude's death Thursday February 25, 4-5pm
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81987610918?pwd=WmtNclhmcmdGdzVwa0FlVUNvOEFZZz09
One of the additional losses of Jude's zoom memorial service, is that the community didn't get to stand around and share stories and memories informally before and after. Next week there is a time to gather as a community, share stories and memories of Jude and other griefs we all carry. We will pray together, but mostly talk and remember. Anyone is welcome to attend and to share any griefs that are heavy on your heart.
