National Drought and Flood Agency Here Locally To Help

By Peter on Feb 17, 2021 12:46 am

The National Drought and Flood Agency are keen to help our region through the drought, recognizing that the effects carry on years after.

Community Engagement Team Director Mary-Jane (MJ)  McLeod, writes,
“The Agency is conducting community outreach events throughout drought-affected districts in regional Australia to bring together community members and share with them important information about available drought support and how to access it. Under this Australian Government initiative, agencies (in partnership with state government agencies and non-government organisations) travel to drought-affected communities, or those recovering from years of drought to assist farming households.”

As an important connection to farmers and community members, we are delighted to invite you to be part of these events.  Please see below for details and I would be most grateful if you could register your interest by replying by email (click button below) by Thursday 18th Feb 2021.

Find out more with online Q & A – This Friday 19th Feb

On Friday 19th  Feb, we will hold a Q & A on skype at 10am  (SA time) to explain further details of the events and answer any questions you may have. The Q & A skype invite will be available shortly. (We will post on the link on the ECBAT website)

The JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme is an incentive for businesses to take on additional young jobseekers. This will help young people access job opportunities as the economy recovers from the impacts of COVID-19.

The JobMaker Hiring Credit will be available to eligible employers for each new job they create until 6 October 2021, where they hire an eligible young person aged 16 to 35 years. It is designed to support new employment and employers do not need to satisfy a fall in turnover test.

The JobMaker Hiring Credit will be claimed quarterly in arrears by the employer from the ATO from 1 February 2021. The payment will be made directly to employers by the ATO.

This video provides an overview of the JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme, the criteria employers and employees need to meet to be eligible, and what they need to do.

Eudunda Bowls News

Division 1 has had an inspirational win!

Contrary to Mike Teakle’s predictions, we proved him wrong to win against Tanunda in a Grand Final atmosphere 94-88. The Eudunda players were ecstatic with the result after striving all season for success.

Andrew ‘Frank’ Pfitzner finished 21-25 against Tony Edwards in a see-sawing match, and it was the battle of the Schiller’s when Ted ( Eudunda ) and Des ( Tanunda ) played opposite each in second position in friendly rivalry. Tait Rogers had an awesome start being 18-5 up until Neil Stewart’s team rallied, with Tait finishing on top 21-18. Chris Jones’ team played solidly beating Tim Liersch 26-21with supporters Joy Pfitzner, Marg and Maurice Nietschke urging them on; and Bill Mader and his team performed very well winning 26-24 against Andrew Swain.

Bill and Andrew teams being the last on the green, all eyes were focussed on each bowl delivered with much cheering as Eudunda could feel victory in their veins!

Division 2A played Tanunda at Tanunda and were out bowled 52-108. Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Te.Au, Ruth Scoot and Ron Hams went down to Neil Jaensch, Ian Jaensch and David Armstrong.

Division 3 received a forfeit from Angaston due to the sad passing of Les Schulz, a well-respected member, worker and green-keeper for Angaston club.

The Night Bowlers played on a balmy night, and were pleased to have the presence of the electrical workers again, adding spark to the evening. John Milde’s team won against the OBE’s, and Murray Sauer commented that his team ‘wanted to give the young ones some encouragement!’ The Meal Voucher was won by Ted Schiller, and the wine by Matt Whitford. Please come along and support the Red Cross Night tomorrow (Thursday) night.

After Saturday’s Pennant matches, Secretary Ruth Scoot announced Barossa Association are supporting the Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation, and our club raised $95.

GG Schutz won the Club Membership draw, winning the jackpotted amount of $55.

About 25 members went to the Light Hotel for tea to support them, and to say thank you for supporting the Eudunda Bowling Club.

Pam Dutschke is Eudunda Bowling Club Ladies Champion

Pam Dutschke has emerged as the new Eudunda Ladies champion after playing the Singles Final last Thursday. She defeated Joy Hams in a closely fought match, and is thrilled to have achieved success after forty-eight years of bowling, and being runner-up five times. Congratulations Pam!

State Fours

Eudunda’s Ruth Scoot, Joy Hams, Doreen Twartz and Betty Pfitzner played the Regional knockout round at Freeling last Sunday against Berri’s Kerry Treloar’s team. Eudunda put pressure on with a 9-2 lead, however Kerry’s skill and experience turned the tables, and won through 21-14 against Eudunda. Well done Eudunda on being very competitive.

There is a Club tea on February 27 – please stay and support your club.

Letter to the Editor

By Peter on Feb 15, 2021 05:01 pm

Where Has Our Tidy Town Gone?

Once upon a time, not too many years ago, Eudunda won several Regional KESAB Tidy Town Awards! Today it is difficult to find a tidy STREET in Eudunda! What has Happened ???. We all have our opinions on this so let’s try to do something like getting our pride back into our Gardens and Footpaths.

Burra Districts Open Gardens Coordinator- Marg Heath has invited us to participate in the Goyder Open Gardens October 16 & 17 2021 Event. This is the same weekend as the Open Iris Gardens .
Here is a link to download an entry form to enter directly with Marg Heath.

This is a great chance to showcase Eudunda once again. A drive around the town including every street and garden would be impressive BUT a lot of tidying up needs to be done before this can eventuate….

Therefore I am pleading with all residents to get active tidying up their Gardens and Footpaths in front of your Home to get some PRIDE back.

“Tidying up Footpaths is the Councils job,” you say, but heck we all know this does not happen!

If you want a job done, you do it yourself”

An old adage.

Let’s make this happen! Not just a Fairy Tale!
Kind Regards
Margaret Doecke.

Editor:
In previous times, fitter people used to help their aged neighbours to tidy up and this ‘Community Spirit’ was a major help in making the town tidy. (
and this may still happen, we would love to hear your stories)

The Community should not have to do this alone. Eudunda is one of the Southern Entrances to the Goyder Region, If our town/district present an untidy front Tourists may well turn away from the region rather than adventure further into it.

Council should also come to the party by supplying Green Waste disposal for residents and a works team to clean up the public areas at the appropriate time to culminate in a well maintained town for the Open Gardens Event. With some luck the streets might remain nice for that month and still look smart for the Eudunda Show, a month later, it depends on what rains we get. Maybe all we have to do is ask early enough and it will be put into their work schedule.

Eudunda Bowls News

Eudunda Bowls News Banner

The Night Bowlers enjoyed a balmy night on a fast green, prepared by George Mitev for Mally, who together with Eudunda bowlers Bill, Greg, Geoff, Chucka and Frank were competing in the Men’s Country Carnival in Adelaide. Carolyn Doering thanked George for mowing and rolling the green, and the kitchen staff and Mike at the bar. Both Neil Eberhard and Judy Milde won meal vouchers in the raffle.

The Ladies played Lyndoch on our home turf and won 51-47. Joy Hams had a tussle with Marion Kenyon 13-17, Pat Obst defeated Joss Allwood 20-16, and Judy Milde had a comfortable lead on Sue Drummond until Lyndoch scored five shots on the last end, which resulted in Eudunda’s winning margin narrowed to 18-14.

There were no Thursday afternoon pennant matches due to the Men’s Country Carnival in Adelaide.

Division 1 played Freeling at Freeling on a cool wintry summer’s day and were down 65-98. Andrew ‘Frank’ Pfitzner had a match of mixed fortunes, taking the lead mid-stream, then relinguishing it 18-25 against Trevor Heinjus, Tait Rogers had a cliff-hanger against Turtle 17-17, Bill Mader won the toss against Nathan Marslen, and shining light was Chris Jones winning 20-17 against Ben Massey.

Division 2A encountered Freeling on our home turf finishing 60-69. Ron Hams and Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Te.Au were down to Trevor Noble and Brian Koch, and shining light was Ruth Scoot winning 25-15 against Graham Mattingly.

Division 3 also played Freeling at Freeling and had an excellent win 72-40 with all teams up. Roy Fiegert was up 19-16 to Ross Wordly, Pat Obst and her team bowled very well with three players, winning 26-13 against Doug Jamieson, and Marg Nietschke had a brilliant day 27-11 against Lyal Edwards.

Team of the Week was Marg Nietschke, Maurice Nietschke, Marg Weymouth and George Mitev with an impressive sixteen shots up.

Congratulations to Greg Prior and Kym ‘Chucka’ Schutz who played off in Singles knockouts on Monday at the Men’s Country Carnival.

Liz Kleinig’s name was drawn for the Club Draw, but she was not present, so it jackpotted again.

All sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Bill Mader for his birthday on Sunday.

Eudunda Bowling Club was presented with the Best Community Grounds award at the Australia Day breakfast at Eudunda Gardens last Tuesday. Pam Dutschke and President Ted Schiller received the award on behalf of the bowling club. Many thanks to Pam for her untiring efforts in keeping the grounds and garden in peak condition, resulting in the well-deserved recognition.

Night Bowls ran the over 60’s/Under 60’s competition in perfect weather. The shield, which is donated by Malcolm Treloar, was won by the over 60’s this year, and was presented by Carolyn Doering to the winning team Judy Milde, Allen Kleinig and Colin Menz, on behalf of the Over 60’s. It was the best turn-out of bowlers for years for the Over 60’s/Under 60’s competition due to the influx of electrical contractors continuing during these few weeks. They have caused a spark in the Night Bowls in making friends and creating a happy atmosphere. The meal voucher was won by Maurice Nietschke and the bottle of wine Knighty. Night Bowls Committee person Jeff Willoughby thanked the kitchen staff of Pam, Liz and Marg for the supper, and Mike behind the bar.

A preliminary notice for the Red Cross Night which is on Thursday 18th February 7 o’clock for 7.30pm start, and will be a 2-bowl Triples game.

Eudunda had a best week for the season with all pennant sides winning except one.

The Ladies played Tanunda at Tanunda and had a nail-biting finish 56-54. Joy Hams flew into top gear from the ninth end and defeated Marg Meertens 23-11, Judy Milde and her team had a flying start 14-0 against Lou Ross and continued to dominate throughout the game finishing 26-10, while Ruth Scoot faced a formidable Sue Yates 7-33. On the last end, Ruth saved the side from defeat by drawing a bowl to save four shots, therefore giving Eudunda a two-shot victory.

Thursday afternoon Division 1 journeyed to Freeling. Bill Mader, Geoff Schmidt and Murray Sauer were down to Turtle, B’Rass Schuster and Deano Geier finishing 43-76.

Thursday afternoon Division 2 played Kapunda White on our home turf, winning 79-40. During the match, Tony Scoot retired unwell, and Maurice Nietschke took over as Skipper and Pam Dutschke filled in as a substitute, who proved to be an asset for the team, and resulted in a draw against Tony Robinson. Mally Schutz had a great win against Richard Atkins 22-11, and Ron Hams had a pearler of a day winning 42-14 against Ron Rogers.

Division 1 had a bye.

Division 2A played Freeling at Freeling and won in a nail-biter 71-67. Ron Hams continued his winning streak 21-20 against Warwick Ledsham, Ruth Scoot conquered Krystal Mullins 25-21, and Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Te.Au had a tight finish 25-26 against Dean Geier.

Division 3 played Lyndoch on our home turf and won 56-48. There were two extremely closes clashes where Marg Nietschke and Roy Fiegert were 16-17 to John Pratt and A Russell, but the shining light was Pat Obst and her team who were victors 24-14 against Lance Lange.

Team of the Week was Ron Hams, Bob Leditschke and Ted Bowden with a magnificent 18 shots up.

Pam Dutschke announced to the pennant players the success of the club in receiving the Australia Day Best Community Grounds Award. The club is indebted to Pam for her work around the club.

The club draw jackpotted again when Frankie Pfitzner’s name was drawn -not present due to the bye.

State Fours

Eudunda had a ladies team of Joy Hams, Ruth Scoot, Doreen Twartz and Betty Pfitzner in the State Fours last Sunday at Nuriootpa who were successful in defeating Freeling and Tanunda, and losing to Angaston, however winning overall. This qualifies the team to play in the knockouts at Freeling on Sunday 14th February. Well done ladies!
