Va. opens central covid vaccine signup website

The Virginia Department of Health has launched its statewide covid vaccination pre-registration system in an effort to streamline the list. The website allows state residents to pre-register online for the vaccine, check their registration status, and get additional information.

Officials said anyone who has previously filled out a survey or form or signed up for a wait list to be vaccinated through their local health district has been imported. Data will update throughout the week, and individuals can check the waiting list to see if they are included. If you have not yet registered, you can register online at the state's website.

In addition to the website, an accompanying state hotline will be available beginning Wednesday, Feb. 17. Gov. Ralph Northam will provide more information about the hotline and the online tools in a news conference at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Those who would like to receive the vaccine through CVS Pharmacy will still need to sign up for an appointment through the pharmacy. CVS has begun registering Virginians age 65 and older for covid vaccinations as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Eligible individuals can register online.

Virginia has vaccinated more than 12% of the state's population with at least one dose. For more information on covid in Virginia and the United States, and the commonwealth’s ongoing efforts in the pandemic, visit www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronaviruswww.vdh.virginia.gov/covid-19-vaccine, and www.cdc.gov/coronavirus.

Blood drive Wednesday at Coliseum

The City of Hampton and the American Red Cross are sponsoring a blood drive at the Hampton Coliseum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17. Donors in February will receive a $5 gift card.

Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood, according to the Red Cross. Donating one pint of blood can help as many as three people. Schedule a donation appointment online at RedCrossBlood.org. If you have never signed in as a donor before, you can create an account by clicking on "Sign In" at the top of the page. Walk-ins are welcome, too.

This year, all blood donations are tested for COVID-19 antibodies. The results will be available 7 to 10 days after successful donations.
