Brief Excerpt from Phenomenal Touch

Her heart began to race wildly.
“You saw nothing,” he repeated, lifting her chin with one finger as he looked into her eyes.
She shivered, and then blinked. His eyes were electric blue now. Jesus, maybe she was losing her mind. People’s eyes didn’t shift color like that. “What are you trying to do? Hypnotize me?” She jerked her head away from his touch, stepping back. “How did you get all the way out here?” She drew a breath, and tried hard to look away from the thick evidence of his interest below his waist. Though how anyone could respond like that in this weather was beyond her, but then, what did she know about men? She forced herself to look at his face instead of his appealing body. “And why are you naked? It’s freezing out here.”
He looked down at himself oddly as if he just now realized it. When he looked at her again, she sucked in a breath, staggering back. He reached to catch her arm before she fell again.
Grateful for the save, but still disconcerted, her gaze returned to him. He wore a black sweater with jeans and a leather jacket. He had hiking boots on as well. “How did you—“
“How did I what?” He dropped his hand.
She swallowed hard at his massive presence, and then frowned up at him. “Don’t patronize me. I know what I saw. I’m not an idiot.” She got on her tiptoes, and peered over his shoulder because he was so tall. The green light was gone and with it the last threads of her sanity. Her jaw clenched. No, she wasn’t crazy. It was real, her attention dropped to the interesting ridge at the front of his jeans, exactly what she should not look at.
When she glanced up at him once more, he smiled, but there was a coolness to his stare now. She didn’t know how, but she sensed he was angry.
“You saw nothing,” he said once more. Then he reached out to brush a strand of hair from her face.
Annoyed, she swatted his hand away. “You keep saying that. Who are you trying to convince? What is it helping anyway? I know what I saw, whether anyone believes me or not.” She turned on her heel and headed back in the direction of the cabin, surprised to see he followed her. Unnerved by his presence, she babbled, “I mean, who knows? It could be the mother ship, and we’re all going to be abducted by aliens.”
He laughed, but his tone was mirthless. “Do you truly believe that?”
“No, but I saw something. It could’ve been anything.” Her eyes narrowed at him as he walked beside her. “And you’re not exactly forthcoming. You could be one of them.”
“You’ve quite an imagination.”
She laughed, but she didn’t reply. She was practical enough to know what she saw, and she certainly hadn’t imagined him naked. No amount of fantasy could have conjured up that tempting peril. Something was wrong and she couldn’t place what it was. She would have to investigate more tomorrow. And she didn’t trust sexy, mysterious strangers any more than she trusted herself with a wine bottle, which she definitely hadn’t touched.

Don't forget to grab a copy of my fun new release! Exciting, right? 😉

I’ll catch you again with the official newsletter, closer to March. Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

As always, happy reading!
