Good Morning Friends,

Every Ash Wednesday we are reminded that Lent is upon us. As a community, it still sometimes feels like we never left Lent behind last year. When I first came back into the sanctuary in May of last year to prepare for a return to outdoor and eventually indoor worship, the Sanctuary was still prepared for Lent. With our Lenten banners and our altar still decorated in the sparse way we use during lent to guide us, I was struck by how appropriate it is, that still this long in the future, we are finding ourselves once more in the wilderness of Lent.

Lent is a time of preparation for Easter. It is a 40-day journey with Christ, that mirrors his own time in the desert and the Israelites 40 years of wandering.

So this year, as we embark on our journey to the cross, and even more importantly, our journey to the resurrection, we are reminded of the wilderness we yet wander. With hope on the horizon, as more and more of our communities are vaccinated each day, with hope on the horizon that spring will once more find us, with hope on the horizon that the tomb will once again be empty come Easter.

We gather and pray together, on this Ash Wednesday but together through the entire journey of Lent.

I hope you will journey with me.

Blessings,
Pastor Sara

Invitation to Lenten Discipline

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ: the early Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord's passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church that before the Easter celebration there should be a forty–day season of spiritual preparation.

During this season converts to the faith were prepared for Holy Baptism. It was also a time when persons who had committed serious sins and had separated themselves from the community of faith were reconciled by penitence and forgiveness, and restored to participation in the life of the Church.

In this way the whole congregation was reminded of the mercy and forgiveness proclaimed in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the need we all have to renew our faith.

I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to observe a holy Lent: by self–examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self–denial; and by reading and meditating on God's Holy Word.

To make a right beginning of repentance, and as a mark of our mortal nature, let us now kneel before our Creator and Redeemer.
Wednesday at 6:45pm. In-person only.

Registration is open for the 2021 camping season!  Check out the camps and events at Dakotas United Methodist Camps.

Registration and all information for the 2021 camping season are digital and available on our website. With the potential for changes to schedules and events leading up to summer due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Dakotas and Minnesota Camp & Retreat Ministry team chose to forgo the traditional printed camp brochure this year. Instead, all camp listings and registration information are on the Dakotas UM Camps website where details will be updated quickly, and changes made in real-time. This ensures you will always have the most up-to-date information.

The early bird incentive, bring-a-friend discount, and camperships are all still available.

Space may be limited this season, so sign up soon!
  • Register by April 30th to receive the Early Bird Discount of $5 off per night of camp.
  • Bring-A-Friend Incentive is back in 2021! Each new camper you bring to camp you can earn you a discount of $25 off the price of your camp.

"All My Hope" by Crowder

With the obvious influence of gospel music, David Crowder and Tauren Wells point to our Source of hope and healing in Jesus Christ. We accept the truth of our suffering in the past and look toward the future knowing we are forgiven. This song is written by David Crowder and Ed Cash; the lyrical voice is speaking from a male perspective. Pain affects men and women. We must forgive the gender-specific section about two-thirds into the song. God is beyond "he" or "she", but is instead "All".

Peace,
Janson
