SWISS PULSE IN NEW YORK
DISCOVER THE RUMANTSCH LANGUAGE
VIRTUAL FILM SCREENING OF HIDE AND SEEK
Rumantsch officially became a national language in Switzerland, alongside German, French and Italian, on February 20, 1938. In celebration of this anniversary, we have prepared an exciting slate of content highlighting the language during the Rumantsch language week, Emna Rumantscha. Join us for a virtual screening of the film Hide and Seek (Christoph Schaub, 2018, 91 min)— the first ever Rumantsch language feature film— and get to know the language and the beautiful landscape of canton Grisons. This romantic comedy-drama follows Mona and Gieri, a middle-aged couple who after 20 years of marriage have lost their spark. In an attempt to rekindle their love, Mona seeks help from the village's new pastor whose unconventional ways stir up trouble in the village. Stream the film for free until Saturday, February 27. Registration is required.

VISIT
Carnival is usually celebrated in Switzerland during the month of February as a way to welcome the Spring season and chase away the Winter blues. This year, many traditional celebrations had to be canceled but this does not mean you can’t enjoy the typical Swiss carnival delicacies. Join chef Yannick Germanier as he prepares a sweet treat: Fastnachtschüechli (Swiss-German), merveilles (French), fritelle di carnevale (Italian), or padlanas (Romansh).

EMILY THEYTAZ RECOMMENDS
MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI
My name is Emily Theytaz, I’m from Geneva and I joined the Consulate in October 2020 as a Digital Media Manager. My job is to promote the image of Switzerland by creating, curating, and posting social media content. As a huge film buff, my pick is the 2016 Swiss stop-motion animated film ‘Ma vie de Courgette’. It’s a beautiful movie about a boy sent to an orphanage after the death of his mother, and if you are an avid Rotten Tomatoes fan, you know the film’s 99% fresh rating is a rare feat. The film was nominated at 89th Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and although it did not win, it’s always a great source of pride for me when a Swiss film is recognized at the Oscars.
