Dear Rustenburg Family

Welcome to 2021 – a new year after one that defined many of us. While 2020 was a year of many firsts for our school, it was also a year where we as a school came together and persevered to ensure all our academic goals were met.

It has been very exciting to welcome the Grade 8s and other new learners to our school. Welcome to all our new parents. We look forward to making you all part of the RGHS family.

You might see some new faces around the school, so allow me to introduce the new staff members that will be part of the RGHS team. In charge of finance will be Ms Mariam Naidoo, as the Head of Finance; Dr Marcus Melck delves into ancient realms, ruins and civilizations as the Head of History; Mr Umar Samandarov tackles algorithms in the Maths department and he is joined by Ms Tasneem Shabodien who brings Maths and Science to life. Ms Christelle Grimbeek explores the geographical wonders of the world in Geography, Ms Ulpha Edries performs some marketing wizardry as the Head of Communications and Fundraising and Mr Pieter Smith delves into the richness of language as the interim Afrikaans teacher. We are also very glad to welcome Ms Sanda Sogoni to our counselling team - she will provide a safe space for those in need of some emotional support.

We are also excited to welcome Ms Zizzi Sapepa to our front office team as our receptionist, so it is her friendly voice you will hear when calling the school.

Congratulations to Ms Lindsay De Klerk on the arrival of her daughter on 20 January 2021. May she bring her family much joy.

We are looking forward to our 2020 Matric class receiving their results next week.

We are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping COVID departs really soon. 2021 sees the RGHS social calendars jam-packed with exciting events. Hope and optimism is exactly what is needed, so we encourage all to embrace being kind to each other, maybe with random acts of kindness. Sports enthusiasts, there are plenty to be involved in to keep up your fitness levels, despite there being no tournaments or matches for many sporting codes.

Here’s to an exciting and eventful 2021.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND COVID CONCESSIONS

Please remember that your child/ward should attend school regularly on the required days that they are due on campus and they should be working online on the days that they are at home. In both cases, they will follow the timetabled lessons for that day.

In the case of learners whose parents/guardians have applied for a concession, for whatever reason, this means that they will be working online from home every day.  Learners cannot choose to be in on some days and not on others, or opt to come in for some subject lessons only on a given day.

The concession application that is granted by the WCED, be it for comorbidities or any other reason, means that you have opted for learning and teaching instruction through the online and virtual platforms provided by the school. Should the situation change at any time, you may withdraw this application by informing us in writing.
