Lorenzo Gomez III, author of “Tafolla Toro, Three Years of Fear,” joins the Advanced Learning Academy and CAST Tech High School Production Company for a performance and discussion on mental health, live from the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center on Friday, February 26th at 9:30 AM. The event is targeted toward ninth-grade students across the 5-school network and will be live-streamed on the CAST Schools Network social media channels.
Sarah Guerrero, an Advanced Learning Academy senior and CAST School Marketing and Communications intern interviewed Gomez and learned that “Even when things may seem bleak, there is always a way out. Zach Wilson started teaching at the Advanced Learning Academy four years ago as an intern with Trinity University. Today, he is part of the pioneering group of educators in the San Antonio Independent School District teaching African American Studies to 9th through 12th graders. This is the first year that African American Studies is being offered in Texas Schools.
Tomorrow, Friday, February 26, 2021, at 11:30 AM, Mr. Wilson will be joined by Diamond Hodge, Advanced Learning Academy Student, Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, San Antonio Poet Laureate, and Marisa Perez-Diaz, Texas State Board of Education Member, for a panel discussion on the impact of his course. The event will live-streamed on the CAST Schools social media pages.

Communities In Schools of San Antonio Receives $1 Million Dollar Grant from USAA to Advance Racial Equity and Future Workforce Development.
CAST STEM and CAST Med are among the ten high schools benefitting from USAA’s support. Communities In Schools will work with CAST teachers and faculty to provide social-emotional support and a connection to community resources for students most at risk of dropping out.
