Say hello to your February newsletter! We're glad that many of you found the first
one so useful. Stay tuned for your monthly dose of OTR updates - remember we're
still running all of our projects over video call.

Visit our website to read our up-to-date COVID-19 statement to find out how we
are continuing to support young people. And if you have any colleagues who are
interested in subscribing to the School Newsletter, they can now sign up over here!

Just to jog your memory! Off The Record is a mental health social movement
by and for young people aged 11-25 in Bristol and South Gloucestershire
.
We
offer a number of projects, including 1:1 and group work, to promote good
mental health and wellbeing, and empower young people to support
themselves and their communities.

OTR is a self-referral service, and young people can sign themselves up
through our website. Click below to watch our brand new video and find out
how they can do this!

Here you can see all the projects we currently have on offer and their age ranges!

And remember - there is no pressure for young people to talk, or have their
camera or microphone on in our groups if they don't want to.
They are in
complete control of their privacy and how much they would like to contribute.

Many of our projects are open-access, meaning that there is no wait for them. These
include Resilience Lab, Speakers Corner, Freedom, Yoga and Book Club

However, some of our services do require a wait...

1:1 Therapies  |  3-5 months
Pro Real  |  1-2 months
Peer Mentoring  |  0 months

Groups  |  Wait-times vary according to demand, funding and when the
next course is due to start. Do feel free to get in touch with us by phone or
email with any questions about these courses.

Let's catch up! Here's what's been going on at OTR since we were last in touch!

OTR Writes is back! A five week course offering young people aged 14-25 a space to creatively explore poetry and spoken word as a form of expression.

Starts on Tuesday 23rd February. But don't worry, we'll be running a second round from Tuesday 6th April!

Young people can find out more and sign up here.
Acts of Activism is an eight week course perfect for young people who care about the world around them and want to make a change. This group for 16-21 year olds teaches young people about different topics in social action and explores ways that we can practice small acts of activism in our own daily lives.

Starts Thursday 25th February, running from 6:30-8:30pm. Young people can sign up here.

Speakers Corner allows women of colour aged 16-25 to discuss identity in a non-judgemental space. These weekly sessions discuss and debate various aspects of culture - where do we feel like we belong? How can we feel safe? How can we heal?

This group runs weekly on Fridays from 4:30pm. Young people can find out more and sign up here.
And remember we're running our Showcase Hubs monthly. These are webinar-style sessions where we talk about our projects, how to use the website, and answer your questions.

Everyone's welcome - young people, parents and professionals - and we'll be using webinar mode so you won't be on camera!

Find dates and register on our TicketTailor page!
This month's Good News Story comes to us from Elaine Emms - Chipping
Sodbury School's Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
For this year's Children's Mental
Health Week, Chipping Sodbury ran a photography competition - 'Finding Awe
and Wonder in Lockdown' - to shine a spotlight on how beneficial nature is for
positive mental health. Students were asked to send in their outdoorsy photos with
three chances to win. Here are some of the photos!

If you would like your school to be featured next time, send an email to sammi@otrbristol.org.uk. We want to shout about what amazing things schools
are doing to promote positive mental health and wellbeing amongst staff and students.

Each month we share a wellbeing tip that you and your colleagues can use to help promote wellbeing amongst students. This month we're talking about sleep.

We all know how important sleep is, and we are also most likely in agreement that young people really don't get enough of it. But this is often due to the adolescent body clock - did you know that young people naturally don't start feeling tired until around 1am? They're wired differently to adults, yet still need between 9-10 hours sleep a night. This means that having to turn up for school for 9am already puts them at a disadvantage!

Because of this, encouraging good sleep hygiene in young people is really
important. Both Headspace and The Sleep Council have loads of information
about how young people can build habits to make sure they're getting the best quality sleep possible.

Have a wellbeing tip that you think should be featured in the next newsletter? Let us know by emailing sammi@otrbristol.org.uk and we'll shout about it next time!

Remember that we're able to come into schools within Bristol and South
Gloucestershire to promote OTR and offer support -  often free of charge!

Our Membership Team (hello@otrbristol.org.uk) can offer virtual assemblies,
staff training, and also the creation of wellbeing noticeboards in your school
(if you can't have external visitors - ask us for a pack so you can make your own!).

Our Resilience Lab (resiliencelab@otrbristol.org.uk) team are continuing to
offer virtual interactive workshops for schools around building good mental health,
including stress management, negative automatic thoughts, strengths and reaching out.

Want something a bit more tailored for your students or staff members? Check out
our training and consultancy arm Diffusion (diffusion@otrbristol.org.uk) who are
able to offer this for a fee.

Get in touch - we want to work with you!

Is your school looking to do some fundraising this year? All of OTR's services are free
for young people, and any and all fundraising events supporting us are very
appreciated so we can continue to provide support.

Whether it's encouraging students to take on their own personal challenges, holding
events within school or choosing us as your charity of the year, we will support you and
be forever grateful for your efforts. Our Community Champion Sylwia is also on hand to
help you with ideas, as we understand these may be running dry due to the pandemic!

Click here to download our fundraising pack for information and inspiration, and email Sylwia at sylwia@otrbristol.org.uk for a chat about your ideas!
