Executive Director’s Report

The Rev. Bob LawrenceOne year ago in mid-February, this article was heralding the incredible success of Summer Camp registrations, and our newly launched Buy-A-Bunk campaign to help outfit our cabins with new bunk beds. Little did we know that Summer Camp 2020 would be canceled, and that any fund raising efforts would be diverted to sheer survival needs. But, here we are one year later, planning yet again for a fully subscribed “Camp Saint Christopher” and relaunching our Buy-A-Bunk campaign. While our fund raising efforts continue for all of our ongoing needs, the replacement of 40 year old bunk beds remains much in need. Please consider contributing to this effort.  Similarly, do not miss the opportunity to acquire one of the few remaining works that Mary Whyte made available for supporters of St. Christopher. Further information about both of these opportunities can be found in this eEncounter newsletter.

Pine tree with cone from topBlessedly, St. Christopher also welcomed two new staff members with the hiring of Naturalists needed to assist with our Barrier Island Environmental Education ministry. While this program is greatly diminished in the numbers of those served, it is a critical component of our overall ministry and we are excited to have the opportunity to welcome returning school groups. As the early signs of spring are appearing even now with budding pine trees, they portend the promise of new life and hope that awaits St. Christopher in 2021. Come and share in all that God is doing in this hallowed place.

Faithfully,

Two New Naturalists Join Our Staff

St. Christopher was blessed to have the need of hiring two Naturalists to assist in the Barrier Island Environmental Education program.  We are thrilled to be able to offer this program to some few private and Christian schools between March and May who trust our abilities to provide a safe educational opportunity in the continuation of this corona age.
Emilee Merritt is from Bluff City, Tennessee and is a 2020 graduate of East Tennessee State University.  Her academic degree is in accounting, and she has much prior experience in camp ministry.

Reeves Goettee is a 2020 graduate of Wofford College where she majored in Environmental Studies and Biology. She is from Summerville, SC and has previously worked at Yosemite National Park.
